So I guess Pau would still have to want to go to NY. Maybe there's hope that his desire for Chicago could drive Melo back toward the Bulls.

Chicago Bulls and Oklahoma City Thunder are the most intriguing destinations to Pau Gasol according to sources. (Source: Adrian Wojnarowski)

Might just be seeing whats Pau's plan....maybe team up in Chi.

Just a guess, who knows? Tryin to be positive

Dude you are spinning. If he was planning to leave he would not be recruiting anyone to NY. Makes no sense

It makes sense if he wants to be able to walk away saying that he searched for every reason to stay and even did some recruiting of his own. I just don't know at this point.

Carmelo is an idiot; he's pitching Gasol to take the RMLE. To do what? Barely make the playoffs? In the East to boot?

Gasol must be like "No wonder the East is so pathetic".

its really dumb isn't it, Lebron must be sitting back and laughing his ass off

Can't believe the pathetic east let Lebron get two rings and still refuses to band together to stop him

Well, Melo will be signing for a 130 million USD. And he just asked Gasol to join him in NYK for 3 and a half million per year.

That's so true. It is crazy how anybody with any logic can believe this. Melo and Gasol are not retired players trying to listen to the zen teachings from Phil about after-life. They are after winning, money in some order.

And he wants Pau to turn down more money from Miami, OKC and San Antonio. :rofl2:

I have something to ask. Keep in mind that I only have 26 years old (turn 27 on july 9 th).

When, in the history, the Bulls sign a big FA on the market?

NT said that Melo is recruiting all the teams players to come and play in New York. So, no it's not correct.

We will have to wait and see what Melo final decision is. All these "sources" are bull ****. And that includes the pro Bulls ones.

I know everyone here thinks that Phil will cave on that, but it's always possible that he doesn't.

Not fair to put all the risk on Melo in this gambit. If we really believe Phil will cave why don't we commit to trading Taj/Dunleavy if Phil doesn't go along so that Melo can at least get close to max money. Worst case scenario we have a bit of a hole at PF this year until Mirotic comes over next year and plugs it. Best case scenario we get get add Melo and keep our mid-level exception.

We always are asking our front office to take some risks. Risking Taj to get Melo seems reasonable. to me.

Dumping all the exceptions, Dunleavy, Butler, Randolph, Snell, and the non-guaranteed guys, and getting a letter that Mirotic will not come over this season, plus the 7 holds adds to $46.3M, opening up $16.9M

The Bulls can take back the larger of that number, or outgoing salaries time 150% plus $100K, or $5M, depending if the outgoing salaries are over $9.8M.

So you have to see if you can find enough salaries to make that number greater than $16.9M.

Dunleavy, Butler, Snell, the 3 non-guaranteed guys, add to $10.9M, Randolph can not be included, unless they finish the trade under the cap, and Mirotic counts as $0 in trade. At $10.9M, you use $5M, instead of 150%, so they would be able to take back a maximum of $15.9M, which is still less than $16.9M.

The most the Bulls could pay Melo, without Boozer being included in the S&T, while keeping Rose, Noah, Gibson, Smith, and McDermott, is $16.9M. If you also dump Smith, and McDermott, you can get that to $18.7M, as long as you are willing to roll with Melo, Rose, Noah, Gibson, RMLE, and 8 minimum salary guys.

Other than Miami and Lakers, I don't think any team in the NBA has really signed a championship changing type of free agent. It is usually from a trade or drafting that you get superstars on your team.

Meh Pau.

Honestly don't think I'd want him. I think his peak is behind him and has been for some time now.

Return to Chicago Bulls
