So long Thabo

Post#1 » by Old Man Game » Fri Jul 4, 2014 12:20 am

So long and thanks for the memories Thabo. No matter where else you go you'll always be a Thunder player to me. Lot's of moments stick out from your time here. Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals in 2012 when you scored 17 and controlled the Spurs with your defense on Parker. That play in the Finals when you stole the ball from Wade and took it back for what should have been an And 1 other than the refs swallowing their whistles for some superstar bull non-call. Or most recently when you dunked on DeAndre Jordan, and lots of good times too numerous to mention. Good luck in the ATL. If you end up shooting 45% from 3 in Budenholzer's offense I'll be officially ready to jettison Brooks FWIW.

He shot 40%+ two of the last three seasons under Scott Brooks.

How does the Scott Brooks part discredit Thabo's offensive role specifically? Is he going to get a better situation than constantly getting wide open jumpers? I thought Thabo would have been worth $2 million or so to see if he regains his form, but I'm glad he found a very favorable contract. Hawks fans will find out quick that Thabo's offensive limitations are real.

Having said that, I will always have a place in my heart for the guy. He was a great ambassador for OKC.

Thabo's contract is fair if he returns to 2011-12 or 2012-13 form. He is still a very capable defender, and has value on offense if he's making his three pointers.

My response to Old Man Game was intended to call into question Scott Brooks' responsibility for Thabo's poor shooting last season, since he shot well under Brooks the two previous seasons.

No doubt. Having watched him this season, it seems unlikely.

If you listened to his exit interview he sort of claimed it wasn't the quality of the looks, it was the uncertainty that he'd even get the ball and if he did whether he had the green light to shoot it. Budenholzer running a sort of Spurs offense should get him more consistent looks where he can get comfortable in his role, or at least that's the theory.

But you're all taking this a bit too literally. I just meant to come up with a number I didn't believe he could possibly achieve. I'm not trying to say Brooks needs to be fired because Thabo Sefolosha regressed on offense.
