Hell, that's just him trying to gather as much info as possible before a decision. The same article says "Anthony is expected to take the weekend to make his decision, sources said, but the process is forever fluid." And he's been talking to his great friend Kobe about the Lakers.

How the heck do people go from that to "he's been playing us the whole time?"

God is a lie, we're all alone, everyone we love will be dust in a few decades and I did not save 15% when I switched to Geico.

(But if Melo picks the Bulls, oh I'll be extremely happy.)

Hey let's remember with this whole Melo recruiting Pau to NY...leCramp tried getting Bosh to go to Cleveland as well in 2010. When that didn't work out, both went to Miami.

Just saying..,we still have a shot
Kris Bryant will go down as the greatest Chicago athlete after MJ

no surprise here

Phil will have to offer him 5/129. If he was trying to save face, lose melo, maximizie trade return he just lost. He will be crucified in NY if he doesnt offer the max now that another team has.

We got no problem striking out on the big fish but were sure great at getting crap like Wallace, boozer, rip, etc. enough is enough, garpax get melo or love or else this a failure.

Yeah, but they become all stars in a domino effect since Rose is on the Bulls. Not taking anything from Noah and Deng, they are great, but but they are not a superst type of players. By the way, the Bulls get both on the draft.

See my point?

Noah had his best year as a DPOY and a 1st team NBA guy with Rose playing 10 games and Noah/Deng were all-stars the previous year with Rose sitting on the bench.

I guess that people voted them as all-stars because of their role play or less than impressive stats when Derrick was MVP

What I want to say is all this start with the draft that brings D-Rose to the team. But ok, Noah starts to be a beast in 2009 and ends up DPOY this year.

But again, my point is... even the two all star we have since 98, beside Rose, we get via draft.

Gar and Pax seems to never took any risks, like the Celtics did in 08, Lakers did with Dwight...

I wonder if Phil's plan was to get Pau's buddy Calderon and then Melo/Calderon convince Pau to take MLE and then recruit his brother next year as a FA?

Lebron/bosh in cleveland = championship

Melo/gasol in NY = 12th pick

Different circumstances

Yay, could we sneak out of the east with some depth moves, sure but no way in hell we beat the west. We need a star player, that's the whole point.

If Melo fails, IMO plan B should be to bring back Deng at 3 year for 10 mill per. Why should we trade taj, butler, and future picks for a PF (love) who has never carried his team to the playoffs?

Rose/DJ/Kirk
Butler/snell/kirk
Deng/Mcdermott/Snell
Taj/Mirotic/Bairstow
Noah/Smith/FA

Even if we bring Love over, we are still going to have a huge hole in SG/SF if we decide to give up Butler as an asset

Can someone update me on what's happened to make us more pessimistic since Melo 13?

Sounds like I've missed some important updates.

Yes they can. Amnestying Boozer puts them about $10-11 million under the cap. Chicago can give Melo that number plus the amount of contracts they're sending out.

The $16 million number makes sense if Chicago is trying to acquire another player through sign-and-trade like Gasol.

Also, don't assume Smith isn't trade bait.

The numbers have been posted multiple times, but I will put them back again, this time including Smith, and the $400K he would save. Amnestying Boozer, and renouncing the exceptions, only gets you $6.2M, under the cap. To get to the ~$10M number, also requires dropping the non-guaranteed guys, which does not have them available for trade. The following two scenarios uses them the optimal way.

Dumping all the exceptions, Dunleavy, Butler, Randolph, Snell, and the non-guaranteed guys, and getting a letter that Mirotic will not come over this season, plus the 7 holds adds to $44.9M, opening up $17.3M (My previous number was $16.9M including Smith).

The Bulls can take back the larger of that number, or outgoing salaries time 150% plus $100K, or $5M, depending if the outgoing salaries are over $9.8M.

So you have to see if you can find enough salaries to make that number greater than $17.3M.

Dunleavy, Butler, Snell, Smith, the 3 non-guaranteed guys, add to $11.8M, Randolph can not be included, unless they finish the trade under the cap, and Mirotic counts as $0 in trade. At $11.8M, you use $5M, instead of 150%, so they would be able to take back a maximum of $16.8M, which is still less than $17.3M.

The most the Bulls could pay Melo, without Boozer being included in the S&T, while keeping Rose, Noah, Gibson, and McDermott, is $17.3M. If you also dump McDermott, you can get that to $18.7M, as long as you are willing to roll with Melo, Rose, Noah, Gibson, RMLE, and 8 minimum salary guys.

This is precisely why I wanted to keep both our picks, which turns out we could have taken Payne and Harris or Hood, go into a meeting with Melo and pitch the big 3 in Melo/Rose/Noah while offering him the most amount of money upfront (unloading Taj to open up max space). That's when you also bring up the option of Gasol.

Expecting him to take less money and keeping Taj was never going to work. Now that you've already sold him on the idea of playing with Taj it's really too late to turn back.

I think if you would have started your pitch with a $20+m starting salary well then maybe you'd have a shot.

You flip a coin and go to Chicago.

Or you realize 20 years later that you blew your best shot at winning a championship and have to sit with Dominique Wilkins and George Gervin at the NBA legends kiddie table.

We traded to get the draft pick with which to get BOTH Deng AND Noah. If you can trade for an allstar, or you can draft one, you should always select the draft one option.

Everyone is panicking because Woj put out a tweet and article about Melo recruiting Gasol to come to NY with him. Which is hilarious since they cannot afford Pau unless they trade something the Lakers want and they likely have nothing the Lakers want outside of Melo.

Just a bunch of panicking over nothing.
