Good for him, it was hard for us to pay that much for a backup PG.

Collison is not a bad player, decent starter, very good backup PG of course.

I can't blame Collison for leaving, it's hard to turn down guaranteed money. I thought that there was a good chance of Collison returning, but I guess I was wrong. I guess we'll turn else where for a backup PG.

I look forward to CP3 having his way on offense against Collison playing on the other side against the Kings for the next 3 years.

now look for us to sign Isaiah Thomas for our backup job...
ehhhhh f it.

we'll see. I don't think there is a great options in the market for a 5-9 PG who has had some success for a dismal Sac Queens who just signed our backup who is a borderline starter for 5.3 million per year, as the Queens' front office thought clearly that he was better than Thomas.

Pretty sure the pistons offered Thomas a 3 year 24 mill contract. We are gonna have to get someone crappy like Steve Blake for the money we can spend.

I'd rather have Farmar than Blake. When healthy, Farmar is a slight bit better than Collison in my opinion.

He is arrogant, but he would have to know that he is not going to challenge CP3 for a starting job. He is a bigger than Collison, nearly as fast, and a slightly better shooter. I think he is a slight upgrade if the Clips can sign him.

You sure Farmar is nearly as fast as DC? I don't think it matters anyways, DC is a better player, but there isn't a huge gap between them. DC is better creating off the dribble, especially pulling up off the pick and roll, is a better defender (Farmar is below average) and better at getting to the line. More efficient scorer / offensive player overall by a decent margin. Farmar is a better 3PT shooter, both are similar overall players and passers.

For cheap, not much wrong with Farmar as a backup PG.

Oh, you'll be VERY surprised as to what the market is for players.

...but, Thomas is 24 years old and just averaged 20/3/6. While he won't get star money, there's at least $6-7M out there waiting for him, and likely more, up to $8-9M, so he's out of our price range. No way we get him for $2M or so.

Sounds like we're probably getting Farmar anyways. I think Collison is the better player, but all we need to do is have Farmar play backup.

I don't even understand the comparison here, I'd take farmar but he is no where near collisons skill level. If he was he would be getting a 16 million 3 year deal somewhere, but he didn't collison did, and as an IE guy myself I wish him the very best.

Farmar isn't significantly worse. His first time as a FA he got like 2 years / $8M or so didn't he? So I mean that's not far off even money wise, but injuries are probably keeping down his contract.

He's an acceptable backup PG either way.

maybe so, but with plenty of PGs that are dominating today's NBA, it would be very hard for any GM to commit a big money and multi years to a 5-7 player who is coming off a great contract-year-season from one of the worst teams that is lowballing their own productive player. I can see a team like Celtics going his route after making a blockbuster trade involving Rondo, or scoring starved Bucks, the Raptors if they don't sign Kyle Lowry, or even the youth starved Lakers, but he seems more of a plan B type of a player than someone many GMs would pursuit as one of the top priorities imo.

was hoping for him to slide into the backup PG market after all 30 teams settle on their starting PG early in FA.
but now with this Jordan Farmar news, Thomas is surely out of our plan now.
ehhhhh f it.
