Do the Kings need to make a trade to make this off-season successful? The off-season started with a wave of rumors that brought on a lot of hope.
I feel like the board is split with the moves made so far this off-season. The possibly losing Thomas and adding only Stauskis and Collison has some people discourage and questioning the Front Office's long-term plan. If the Kings went forward with the roster as is, with them losing Thomas and not making a trade, would you consider the off-season unsuccessful?
The Kings need trade to make the off-season seem succussful?

They need a better bench. The trade in my sig would take care of that. If the FO stands pat and lets Isaiah walk, then they were certainly unsuccessful.

Collison/McCallum
Stauskas/McLemore/Terry
Gay/Williams/Outlaw
Thompson/Landry
Cousins/Acy
Uhh yeah, that team isn't sniffing 30 wins in the Western Conference, sorry.

Depends.
They added long term salary that is not really a long term solution.
So for me if you are going to do that, you better find a way to upgrade in talent level and shed long term salary elsewhere.
Otherwise this off season was unsuccessful. Either be thrifty and save for real talent opportunities, or go get real talent.
So I want to see some talent now that they have further invested.
Would have been better off doing nothing than what has happened so far if that is all they are going to do.

I think I'm on board with a section of Kings fans that wouldn't mind the Smith trade consummated (although I won't be heartbroken if it doesn't). To me its not really about him or if he will be a help or hindrance, which no one can forecast, but about further taking a chance and shaking things up to see something interesting next season (although the move could really backfire, especially in terms of chemistry)

If they take on Smith and get rid of one of Thompson/Landry....I can respect the conservative signing of Collison to make do while gambling on the investment of talent coming to fruition.
Now if Smith backfires at least they chased real potential talent than being stagnant.
So I agree.

A trade is in order for this Kings fan to reestablish some enthusiasm.

As of right now probably. While Collison can be a good fit potentially, there is no question that this team just lost talent in the trade off. I think this is when you now have to see if you can land someone like Smith in a sign and trade because then you'd probably be over where you were last year all things considered in the arena of talent if you did so.
If you start giving out MLE contracts to players like Collison and Landry, you're taking chances, might as well go all the way.

Re: The Kings need trade to make the off-season seem succuss
So far this offseason I don't think we've gotten any worse but I don't think we've gotten better either. Some would say that this is a successful off-season on account of Rudy Gay could have opted out and signed elsewhere and coming into the offseason we knew it would be hard to retain Isaiah. I'm fairly happy with the couple of moves we have made so far. If we make a move for someone like Rondo, Smoove, Gibson, Sanders, Henson etc without giving up too many valuable pieces then no doubt in my eyes we would have had a successful offseason.

Re: The Kings need trade to make the off-season seem succuss
I like the title of this thread and would emphasize the "seem" part. Are we a playoff team yet? Probably not. I believe most people on this board agree that we're another 2 years from breaking the 8th spot in the West. Are we better than we were a year ago? Definitely. I can't help but think of how much more pathetic we were. Gone are John Solmons, Chuck Hayes, Jimmer Fridette, Marcus Thorton, Greivis Vasquez, and Luc Mbah a Moute. Other than Luc (maybe Thorton), most of those players were just empty shirts on this team. Granted there are still quite a few more issues with the roster, but the team we have now makes much more sense, has a greater identity than last years. At the beginning, no one had any idea what last year's starting roster would look like apart from Cuz. There are still several questions, but they're questions that I don't mind thinking about: Can Collison run the team and it's offense? Does Bmac improve significantly upon last year? Can Nik Stauskas deliver the long range shooting that he promises? How well will this team execute both i's offensive and defensive strategies after a full training camp and summer league? The unknowns of the world can leave you feeling depressed or optimistic. So far I'm feeling the latter.

Re: The Kings need trade to make the off-season seem succuss
As long as they dont make any moves that keep us in mediocrity (see Landry), then I'm fairly ok standing pat and freeing up that cap space. I would rather make no move, than a dumb move. If there isn't a trade that will improve our team significantly, don't do it. The team's got a year under its belt with a lot of returning players with more defined roles. Let's see if they'll gel more this upcoming season. Hopefully we can retain IT OR get something of substance from a sign and trade, but I'm really hoping Stauskas is that deadly shooter we've been looking for to give DMC and Gay the space they need.

Re: The Kings need trade to make the off-season seem succuss
I didn't like the Smith trade a few months ago but it seems like the only way to get rid of either Landry/Thompson and possibly improve this team. Might as well try to S&T Isaiah so we get something out of him.
