After Melodrama, who's the best shooting guard we can get?
It seems like the Melo thing isn't happening.
We are negotiating with Mirotic. Good.
Here's what our team looks like right now:
pg: Rose, ?
sg: ?, Snell
sf: Butler, Dunleavy, McDermott
pf: Gibson, Mirotic?
c: Noah, Smith
I didn't put any of the small forwards down at shooting guards because I think that at least Dunleavy and Butler have both shown they play better at shooting guard. Butler shot terribly this year from the field in that position. Dunleavy is no shooting guard on defense. Starting the two of them again at 2 and 3 could work. Ideally, though, we start Butler at SF and find another shooting guard. Shooting guard is the weakest position in the NBA right now, and not surprisingly it's the weakest position in the league. Obviously it's a shame at this point that Afflalo got traded before the draft, because I wonder whether we could have topped the Denver offer after the Melo sweepstakes.
Bradley, Miles, and Meeks are off the board. Who's left?
Hayward (is he a SG or SF?)
Stephenson
Wade
Morrow
Stuckey
V. Carter
F. Garcia
Aside from free agents, how about players under contract? A Boozer amnesty is likely forthcoming, producing quite a bit of cap room. Mirotic will take some of that room. Depending on whether we trade Dunleavy or not, we could have quite a bit of cap room after signing Mirotic. That could be used in a trade that clears an unwanted shooting guard salary from another team from a lower salaried player like Dunleavy or Snell. We also have future draft picks that we could include, such as the Sac pick. Who could we obtain?
Gerald Henderson - Could he be on the move if Charlotte obtains Hayward?)
Dion Waiters - Likely available.
Jeremy Lamb - Available?
OJ Mayo - Who wants him at this point?
Austin Rivers - Yikes.
Anyone else on another roster that interests you?

Trade Rose for Hayward and a pick. Then sign Stephenson. Then trade for Melo.
Stephenson
Hayward
Melo
Gibson
Noah
That would be an interesting squad although you guys are about to kill me for saying that lol.

trade rose ideas have been happening on this board, but mostly we come to the realization that until he can prove that hes healthy, noone is going to touch his contract (or atleast let us have 50c to the dollar) but if he is healthy, then there is no point for us to trade him

I'm ready to live or die by Lance. I don't even care anymore. Mediocrity sucks.
Derrick Rose will do 1 of 2 things in the 2014-2015 NBA Season: 1) Return to MVP form and prove you wrong, or 2) Fail to return to MVP form and prove me wrong. Either way, one of us will end up looking like an ***hole.

Our options are not good. Maybe Nick Young on a two-year deal? Parsons would be ideal, but if Melo goes back to NY, Parsons is almost certain to go back to Houston.
Not interested in Ariza, way too inconsistent overall as a pro. I guess the same could be said for Young, but I like his skillset better for another scorer.

Scottie Pippen's response to whom he would pick for his running mate, Michael or LeBron: "That's a dumbass question. I've never done anything with LeBron. I wouldn't take LeBron to the movies."

Forget washed up wade. Stephenson or Bledsoe is who we'd need to target next. Maybe pierce if reasonable contract.

There are no shooting guards available. Remember, the superstars weren't the first signers off this off season. B- and C-level shooting guards led the way. You have journeymen like Thabo Sefolosha signing multiyear deals at 4M per. Is he better than a replacement level player in any sense? What did Detroit sign Jodie Meeks at, 3 years, 20M? It's like how there used to be runs on signing replacement-level centers back in the day.
Part of the reason the Bulls have adopted playing small forwards at shooting guards is just out of necessity. They seem to get away with it okay. I think you can play Butler, Snell and occasionally Dunleavy there. These are not terrible options.

I'm warming up to this Eric Gordon-Boozer trade idea.

Gordon has a player option for the year after next. It's a lot of money to devote to a malcontent who can't stay healthy. Has Gordon really ever been on our radar after he signed that big deal?

I agree that it wouldnt happen, but its not an unrealistic idea. I can see the Jazz entertaining a buy low chance on Rose. Hayward is about to get a nice sized contract and Rose is a former MVP. And if not the Jazz maybe another team like the Rockets with Chandler Parsons.
First you SIgn Lance on a contract starting at 8-11 mil. 3 yr with a 4th player option.
Then trade for Hayward.
Then Trade for Melo.
Lance can play the role of PG and can guard point guards effectively. Parsons and Hayward are both players who can guard the 2/3 position decently. Melo is a solid defender as a 3 and 4. Gibson and Noah are both elite.
I realize itll never happen, just having a little fun with your roster.

I touched on it in the "vaunted 2nd creator" thread, but I don't think we necessarily need a starting SG. We just need a secondary wing creator somewhere in our 7-man rotation.
That gives us the versatility to sit Butler if aggressive defenses are trapping Rose.
Lance
Waiters
Swaggy P
They have warts, but they have a skill-set we need. Another stand-still shooter like Anthony Morrow isn't going to do it for us.

lol @ calling Wade washed up, then immediately following that with a comment about going after Paul Pierce.

Meh, shooting guard is the most irrelevant position in today's game. Theres hardly any good ones anymore. Thats why teams are playing 2 pg or 2 sf line-ups becuase the two guards suck in today's game. Stuckey would be a good option because even tough his 3 point shooting is not great guys have a hard time guarding him off
the bounce. Bayless would be a nice option as well as a combo guard off the bench. Morrow would be great becuase he is an elite shooter. The bulls are heading in the right direction by bringing in shooters and guys that can score in Mcbuckets and Mirotic. If they can find a combo guard that can get buckets and one more back up big they are all set.

This is really the only guy I can think of who fits our needs. Only problems is he's almost as injury prone as Rose.
I'm starting to think maybe we should take that risk though. The payoff could be great. High risk high reward.

He was decently healthy this yr...player more games than our SS anyway... If we can't get a good wing in FA I would do the trade, esp of we get pau. Rose/gordon/butler/pau/noah is a good lineup

Hayward, Stephenson, N. Young maybe Carter from the FAs. Maybe Waiters (if CLE lands Hayward) or Burks (if UTA retains Hayward) becomes available in trades.
