I know a lot of people don't think he is starter material but I think he is solid. He's got double double potential every night and can get 2 blocks a game. He needs to improve his shot a bit but he is the closest thing we have to a traditional PF.

Id like to hear some arguments against him starting that aren't just that he's not starter material. Why isn't he? What specifically about his game makes him a bench player? Is it his foul rate? FG%?

It seems he isn't given any slack and many just assume he won't ever improve some of these parts of his game.

I do think in the end he becomes a very valuable backup PF, but I don't see him as a major vulnerability as a starter. Sort of like Gortat was for a while, could have started and put up good numbers, was a great backup. He wound up getting paid. I see KOQ on a similar path but being a PF he won't see such a big payday down the road.

I want O'Quinn to get as many minutes as possible because I think he makes a great effort and has some unique skills. With that said we need a big who can pick and pop out to the 3. It is a huge advantage to have a guy that will suck out the big men from the lane for Dipo and Elfrid. I want us to sign a power forward because it is advantageous for us to have more floor spacing for for our guards, not because I think Kyle is inadequate. I also think the right pick and pop forward could eliminate Tobias's position dilemma as well.

We need shooting in general to keep up with the league and this is the perfect time to add shooting at the PF as we wait for Gordon to develop his game to see where he will best fit.

Fournier/Payton
Oladipo/B. Gordon/Marble
Harris/Harkless
KOQ/Gordon
Vucevic/Dedmond

I'm torn on KOQ and Gordon, I just don't know how good Gordon is, I know what KOQ will bring. That's the roster spot I could see changing depending on how Gordon battles.

Anyone else feel comfortable with Fournier at the point to open the season? He seems to be a hybrid type of player. I could see him and Oladipo running the offense to begin the season. Oladipo at this point is the most experienced PG on our team with our offense, so he might be running the show a bit like he did last year, off and on, along with Fournier. They could switch assignments on offense/defense depending on matchups. I think we need to take a risk on Fournier and give him 30 mpg to see what he's got.

You're absolutely right.

We should take the risk on Fournier being a starting guard with Dipo. They are both versatile and complement each other well. He is gonna be a key component to our teams success IMO.

does anyone not remember the last time we tried to force a SG as a PG?

Henny is all over the place. Are we done tanking?

Or we are just being mentioned very often to leverage FAs' value 'cause we have cap space.

However, all the waving does make it seem like we're in the market.

I think we would be forcing combo guards to be combo guards. I could use the same argument you did for Dipo by asking if you remember the last time the suns tried turn a SG into a point guard or combo guard ( that would be Eric Bledsoe btw).

Our guards are nothing like Sasser because Sasser was just a terrible NBA player in general. Sasser never shot over 30% from three in college, he always shot in the low 40s from 2pt range, in his last season of college he averaged less than one assist and he also had a pretty mediocre steal rate as well. Did I mention he was a pretty bad basketball player? Every player on our roster has surpassed Sasser and his forgettable career.

another bizarre target, why do we keep trying to add tweeners? we have enough

I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.

except Bledsoe was a HS PG. played out of position with Wall as a SG, and then back to PG in the Pro's.

Nelson was a PG in HS and College before being one in the NBA. When has Fournier ever played PG?

I was about to make an Exum joke, but I resisted!

I get your point with Bledsoe, but in all honesty, Dipo is a more advanced point guard than Bledsoe was in his first two years in the league (btw Bledsoe was 21 for most of his rookie season). I don't think it is that out of the question to think that Dipo could be as good or better as a playmaker than Bledsoe is now which is all we would need him to be and more, especially with Fournier being a quality combo guard (obviously not a point guard but he certainly is serviceable in stretches).

I would have liked Patterson, but I'm okay with not getting him. I still think Nicholson can be a very solid NBA player. I hope we stay away from Marvin.
