Congratulations. Good get, should thrive under Rivers and with your players. Also, you got him for a lot less than the going-rate ($8-$10 million per) was thought to be. He obviously wants to win.

Miami made a similar pitch. He must have discerned how chaotic the place is right now.

LOVE this signing, a rebounder, shot blocker who shoots the 3 ball. A huge upgrade over anyone we had last season coming off of the bench.

...And he will be great to sub in when other teams start to do a hack-a-DJ.

We lowballed Hawes, too. After the garbage bigs we had off the bench last year, it's nice to see a legit big on board.

is this a MLE deal?

Wasn't sure so I looked it up. Answer is yes

-Hawes will sign a four-year, $23 million deal with the Clippers that will take up the team's midlevel exception unless the Clippers can complete a sign-and-trade deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers before July 10, sources told ESPNLosAngeles.com on Friday.

On the Blazers board we talked a fair bit about wanting to get Hawes. Good signing.

Hawes 3-shooting development is crazy. Last year, 35% of his shots came from behind the 3-pt line. The highest percentage in any season before that was less than 15%.

good pick up. I have a feeling we are going to get one more quality player through a trade. I can't believe w/ all the "STERLING" crap going on, players still want to come to Clipper Nation.

Nice pick up.

Why is Doc insisting on getting Paul Pierce so much? And not only that, but using the freakin' MLE on him? There are so many better free agent SF's we could use the MLE on. Or we could trade for a SF and use the MLE somewhere else (obviously it'll be used on Hawes if Cleveland doesn't S&T)

Totally unexpected but I'm happy with the pickup. I remember for the first half of the season he was BALLING putting up huge stats. He eventually fell back down to earth but its good to know what he's capable of. Is play PF at all? He might be a bit too slow for it, but it would be nice if he could.

Hope with all this refusal for sign-and-trades we are still in the running for Pierce. That would be huge if we could pick him up too.

We need wing defense, but let us be real here, this is a good signing, didn't overpay, he fits on the team, and in the end he also gives some insurance to not have to overpay DJ next year when he becomes a FA. If we can make it into a sign and trade to preserve the MLE, that would be nice too.

Weighing in as a Cavs fan who saw him play for half a season. Hawes is a good pickup. He's the perfect offensive compliment to DJ on a reasonable deal.

Good compliment to both DJ and Blake. Maybe more Blake, and also Paul. Blake has adjusted well to he crowding against him rolling, he'll find a corner shooter, or throw a low to DJ, but for him to be able to attack on the pick and roll with a spread offense will open things up for him and CP.

A stretch big is something this team has needed for some time, and one thing we wanted was one who can play C because the main use was to,open up the floor Blake and CP, not even for DJ. Hawes is also an excellent passer, so the big man passing on this team will be beautiful to watch with him and Blake.

Very solid signing. His defense leaves a lot to be desired, but his ability to stretch the defense is almost unmatched from the center position. There are games when he simply cant miss from three, and the opposing teams will struggle to stop him. Seems like a value pickup for the Clippers. Im a little salty we let him go at that rate. Congrats.
