Yeah, no reason at all to take this long. No reason to think things through on a big decision, consult family, friends and advisers one last time after getting all the pitches, etc.

His family is already in NY. If he wanted to stay there is no reason to consult them for this long. You talk to them that night. If he was thinking about leaving, that's when you really think things through.

Example: My dad had two job offers, to stay in Chicago or to go to Cali. His preference was Chicago all along. It took no more than an hour discussion with my mom and I and it was done deal. The next day, he accepted the offer.

If not, great. However I still find it a bit odd to have Taj pitch only to get dealt to up Melo's offer. That looks bad.

The Bulls want Melo and let it be known that they do whatever. They brought Taj in to hopefully get Melo for cheaper seeing that Taj can help them win easier. But they will not let money get in the way of Melo.

This is interesting. They brought Taj to the meeting and we thought it indicated that he'd stay; but it really represented one of multiple pitches.

I like that we've told Melo we'll do whatever it takes, but that we're putting pressure on him to make it as easy for us (and for him to win) as possible. I think that puts an interesting spin on things, and surely means that the more time Melo takes is more time for him to be thinking about what he wants us to do.

They will also be installing the Triangle offense, a system that has never been successfully executed by anyone other than Tex Winter and Phil Jackson. Kurt Rambis has tried but has always failed. Just because Phil is the President doesn't mean that it's going to be easy... Steep learning curve and you need the right personnel. That is a lot to ask of a former point guard who has never coached before.
