So LA can offer Melo a 4 year 97 mil $ contract. We are offering the same?

NY can offer a five year 129 mil $ deal. When you factor in the tax difference between NY and CHI and the fact that we can sign him for a 5th year later on it isn't as much of a sacrifice as I imagined, but I need to see some exact number.

Whats the total figure if we sign Melo at 22 mil with annual increases AND extend him for a 5th year later on?

I am interested as to how this compares to NY's 5 year max offer. How big is the gap?

I think we may be better off if we give him an opt out. Then we can re sign him to a max and he wouldn't skip a beat really.

Getting nervous. We need to pull out all of the stops - Jordan brand international sales rose as example, ask Lala if she's ever considered shooting porn etc. EDIT: just saw Ralph's proposal and my sausage juiced a bit. Ugh too many sexual posts need to get laid but point being LETS DO THIS
:o LeBron is 0-7 in game winning/tying FGs in the finals. And is 20/116 or 17% in game winning/tying FGs in the 4th/OT for his career. That's historically bad :o

Ralph's news that we gave him options has shifted my weekend such that each second he hasn't announced his return to NY for the mega max is definitely a second closer to him signing with us. Time covers what's happening behind the scenes, and there's nothing more to happen from New York's perspective. They already threw at him all that they have to sell...and he hasn't committed yet. In short, 1) Melo isn't blown away by the Knicks and 2) time is on our side.

Agreed.

The more time that ticks away, the better for the Bulls. If he had his mind made up on NY, it would have been announced or leaked in a substantive way by now .. IMO.

He may still go with NY, but it seems like the Bulls are making this really hard for him. And kudos to them for having a great second option lined up if they have to trade Taj. Because if Melo comes here, and Taj is outgoing, there's no doubt in my mind Gasol will then want to come to Chicago. And what a lineup that would be.

It has been. We just choose to ignore it.

No it hasn't. We've heard "he's leaning" and that some "sources expect" him to return. There's been nothing truly substantial, and if you think those reports are absolutely concrete then you haven't been paying attention this week.

I think it is Knicks or Lakers, both can offer him the Max while we are kinda looking for a Favor for him to come here and take less which would be "NICE" but highly unlikely but I hope I am wrong

I get what you saying but that's all you're gonna get. Lebron and the amigos did it the same way. Those small leaks could mean a lot really. Who knows maybe Melo wants to drag this out more to be in the news.

And how long before either team is a contender?

I've felt good about our chances at getting Melo all along. No, I'm not an insider or anything... just thinking along the lines of "if he wants to win he'll go to Chicago, if he wants money he'll go back to NY." I still think that is the case. It really is that simple, IMO. I think he'll ultimately choose the place that gives him a best chance to win, and that is Chicago.

Hopefully we find out something soon. I'm optimistic.

Rose
Butler or Fa
Melo, mcdermott
PAU, mirotic
Noah

That's instant title contender and makes lebrons decision even harder

Get out of here troll. What more do you want, Melo saw him work out and they talked for 20 minutes afterwards. Confirmed by multiple reliable reports not created by Chris Broussard.

The NBA is undersized right now.
Plus Taj is an extremely mobile big, if he is at C we won't have to worry about him switching on defense.

Illinois State Income tax rate is at 5.00% (supposed to drop to 3.75% next year) this year, New York is 8.82%

$97 million at 3.75% = $3.6375 Million in tax paid (4 years)
$129 million at 8.82% = $11.3778 Million in tax paid (5 years)

These aren't exact numbers because I believe it depends on where they play their games (41 home games subject to income tax in that state, away games are subject to the state income tax rate in each respective state).

So a guess estimate would be around $2.5-3 million more state income tax over 4 years.

Dangit Ralph.......I was all fine with my negativity about him coming, then you give this scenario, lol.

Ok, how do you pass up that scenario where you can get the max, and be on a title contending team? Melo, Rose, Noah and Gasol??????? Pass that up for the Knicks????? I'd probably look at him as a clown if he stayed in NY now. He could get an early termination offer so that he can get another new huge contract in a couple of years, and thus make up for that extra year.
