$97 million at 3.75% = $3.6375 Million in tax paid (4 years)
$129 million at 8.82% = $11.3778 Million in tax paid (5 years)

These aren't exact numbers because I believe it depends on where they play their games (41 home games subject to income tax in that state, away games are subject to the state income tax rate in each respective state).

So a guess estimate would be around $2.5-3 million more state income tax over 4 years.

Don't forget New York City's nearly 3.9% city wage tax, which is added on to the state tax. On the other hand, both taxes are credited against the federal income tax (we need to cap that so states don't rob from the federal government, although at Melo's income, it probably is with the alternative minimum Federal income tax)).

If Gasol comes its without Melo. Melo should make his mind up by tomorrow night. If Melo doesn't come, Taj, Boozer are gone and I expect Gasol to sign with the bulls. We all need to wait on Melo.

They'd be thought of and come of as the biggest pieces of s**t in the league if they did that did. Anyone believing that information is very gullible.

I mean, I tend to agree.

Including Taj in the meeting and then dealing him makes zero sense.

Or they did tell Taj and he was aware that he could be traded in a scenario with Melo coming here. Wouldn't surprise me at all if management told Taj this and he knew his pitch was on the grounds that Melo would be taking less money to keep him here.

I'd imagine players are reasonable so long as you are honest and upfront with them.

It's possible that long before the meeting the Bulls sat down with Taj and told him very honestly what the deal was. "We love you, but as the nature of this business, your name may be involved in trade discussions as we pursue certain superstar Free Agents this year."

"If you want, you can come to the meeting with Jo and you guys can both try to sell the existing core to Melo, so that we can keep everyone together. We cannot give any guarantees that will happen, but we would like it to as a first choice."

I think that would make Taj a pretty darn enthusiastic salesman. In fact, its kind of odd for Taj to be there otherwise. Unless he's untouchable, but Ralph's report indicates he is not. So the above is more likely the story.

After meeting Taj face to face, it also makes it harder for Melo to have him traded and demand the max. Puts guilt on him. Unfortunately, might also push him back to NY if he really did want more money and doesn't want to be the reason the Bulls break up a bunch of guys that get along, and surely he knows Noah loves Taj being here.

Robert Randolph is the worst thing aside from Dolan to happen to the Knicks

His family is already in NY. If he wanted to stay there is no reason to consult them for this long. You talk to them that night. If he was thinking about leaving, that's when you really think things through.

Example: My dad had two job offers, to stay in Chicago or to go to Cali. His preference was Chicago all along. It took no more than an hour discussion with my mom and I and it was done deal. The next day, he accepted the offer.

Your dad was talking about losing close 50 million dollars. No!
That is an extraordinary amount to consider turning down.

Its not close to 50 million. It is only the 5th year. A 5th year he can get later. Now account for taxes, and its more like 25 million or even less.

Hahaha okay good. I went to this Twitter and he looks like he just says things.

He's got a confirmed sticker because he's a musician so people probably listen to him...I imagine this leads to terrible things.

I know a certain poster who said we told Taj going into the meeting this could end with him off the team, and yet he still participated.

I regret now that I called him a lunatic

Taj the team player :)
if this is true then wow. I can see it happening through. It's a superstar league. If anything it's probably a compromise to Jo to at least give Taj a fighting chance.

Guys, I'm way behind, I don't know if I can do the 90 pages today.

Something exciting looks to have happened. Just tell me, has Ron Paul made an appearance in the last 10 pages? Or is this much ado about nothing?

If Gasol signs with the Bulls without Melo, my faith in management is completely gone. That move makes absolutely zero sense.

Now, would I take a Rose/Butler/Melo/Gasol/Noah lineup? **** yeah. That lineup comes out of the East next year.

It's nothing. Even when it's something, it's nothing. Have you not learned anything over the past 10 years?
