I don't agree. Isn't that why the Deeks article is so important? Sham is saying we can amnesty Boozer while still being able to get Melo at a decent (from Melo's POV) salary via S&T. And by "decent", I mean more than 17M and less than the Lakers max offer, so 20'ish million?

17.4 million. And my opinion is that this simply isn't near enough.

Are you sure? How do you get 17.4? Now I have to go dig up that thread...

@TheBullsZone: Rumors of Carmelo not wanting to come this team or that has been said for every team he met with. Except NY. Coincidence?

I've been wrong before. I was wrong about Rose comeback. I was told by someone he was coming back and Rose had told everyone at Adidas he was coming but BJ and crew stopped it.

As far as this time, my source is in Utah.

No one wins if Melo goes to the Knicks for the max. Not them, not us

We really would neither win nor lose. We would still be in a far better position than NY.

MnM24 wrote:Bulls won't lose if Melo takes the Max to the Knicks... They still don't have talent and that weak team isn't a threat to the Bulls with a healthy Rose.

Sure we do. Obviously we are in a better position than other teams but that doesnt mean we didnt lose out on him. Melo is a game changer.

Bulls are getting Melo and Gasol, Utah is being used as a salary dumping place, Melos lawyers will be at a Chicago law firm tomorrow.

Either all that or nothing has actually happened.

Who said his lawyers are coming tomorrow?

The salary structure of the NBA makes older players with more experience much more expensive. However, as their skill may be close to declining, they are a very risky prospect. They get better as they reach their 25th birthday. They peak around 25-26. After that they slowly decline as they approach 30 and after 32 they rapidly decline.

-17% decline in WP48 (wins produced per 48) 30 to 31
-22% 31 to 32
-35% 32 to 33
-57% 33 to 34
-146% 34 to 35

One could argue as long as we get 1 championship out of it, it's all worth it. I agree.

Again...My all encompassing point is ...

Whether we get Melo or not, Let's look at this as a win/win.

Why the hell would Melo need his lawyers to be in Chicago, such nonsense.

I had a massive lol at that.

I live here in LA most Lakers fans are bandwagon fans as long as they are winning they support but this past season was priceless I laugh my butt off.

Sidenote: Mark Deeks also vaguely mentioned something on twitter about the possibility of using Kirk Hinrich in a S&T. I don't know how that factors in, but maybe that means we can use Kirk to ramp up the salary as you say to give Melo even more, perhaps the same amount as the LA max?

Deeks' article didn't really say anything new. If we amnesty Boozer and then do a S&T using cap space, we cannot be more than $100k over the cap after the S&T. I don't see of any way for that to work without us giving up Taj Gibson in the S&T.

The salary amount we can offer Camelo via S&T is roughly based on the following I thought:

Capspace + Outgoing Salaries - 100k

EDIT: removed the part about 120%
