I believe you need to subtract cap holds as well since the bulls will be < 12 players

He can more realistically threaten to sign there outright.

And Houston can't just clear cap space as a smoke screen on melo's behalf.

So how much capspace is that combined with? Doesn't it look like the following?

Magilla_Gorilla wrote:Bulls can open up a little over 9 million in cap room by renouncing exceptions and amnestying Boozer.

Non-guaranteed + MDJ = 7.3 million

Non-guaranteed + MDJ + Snell = 8.7 million

Non-guaranteed + MDJ + Snell + A Randolph = 10.6 million

10.6 + 9 = 20.5 million starting salary

Bulls roster would be Rose / Butler / Melo / Gibson / Noah + Dougie, Cam-Bear, DJ (RMLE), Greg Smith

That's 20.5, which is still more than Brooklyn's 17.4 number.

And if it needs to be more, can we S&T Kirk to go even higher than 20.4?

David Haugh clearly had that article penned since yesterday. And he's not really the go to guy for INSIDER NBA news.

I'm just speaking in terms of actual numbers, not payroll.

If Chicago sent all of those contracts out, they could take back $16.69 million in salary. It's very flexible though. Chicago could use those contracts to do a number of things.

You guys are allowing yourselves to get too high and too low. All this lawyers going to Chicago is clouding your head. Even Ralph expects Melo to stay with NY. Either which way, wait until Monday and enjoy waiting time doing something else.

If Bosh bolts for Houston, Melo can go to Miami and they can still get a decent center.

I wouldn't be too upset. Melo would be a step down from Bosh-- they would need size badly. We keep Taj and get medieval on their a**es.

True especially if we can get Lance our team would be pretty good matchup against them but that cHeat team will get so many unfair superstar calls in the playoffs though

Rose
Lance
Butler
Taj
Noah

vs

Napier
Wade
Melo
LeBron
who knows

Melo handled this better than the trade

Everything about him and Chicago is very quiet and he's did his best to give them all the leverage needed

I have a friend who has a cousin who has a 2nd uncle who's brother's son in law has a hot dog stand right outside the United Center who heard something from a person that was there the day Melo came and visited and he said Melo to Chicago was a sure a thing...

Take it for what its worth.

Lakers or leverage? Bulls continue waiting on Melo.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/ba ... 6349.story

"But the presence of a third team could facilitate the process, particularly because the Lakers are rumored to have interest in Boozer should the Bulls use the amnesty provision on him.

"There are a lot of ways to get this deal done," said someone familiar with the Bulls' pitch to Anthony.

The Tribune reported last week that the Bulls didn't discuss money much with Anthony in their Tuesday pitch but displayed a confidence they could make the financials work. And this was with Taj Gibson, whom both the Bulls and Anthony want to keep, as part of the pitch.

The Lakers and Knicks can offer Anthony a maximum contract, though the Knicks' offer would be richer by virtue of a fifth year only they can offer. The Bulls would have to gut their team for maximum salary-cap space, which is why a sign-and-trade represents their best chance to land Anthony."

KC confirmed reading RealGM Bulls Forum after this entry.

Dunleavy
Randolph
Snell (option hasn't been exercised)
Amundson**
Brewer**
James**

=$10.69 million in expiring/non-guaranteed contracts
**non-guaranteed

You can only include Randolph, if the trade finished with the team below the cap, but even if you it were legal, the trade would only be able to bring back $15.7M. Not near enough.

Dumping all the exceptions, Dunleavy, Butler, Randolph, Snell, and the non-guaranteed guys, and getting a letter that Mirotic will not come over this season, plus the 7 holds adds to $46.3M, opening up $16.9M

The Bulls can take back the larger of that number, or outgoing salaries time 150% plus $100K, or $5M, depending if the outgoing salaries are over $9.8M.

So you have to see if you can find enough salaries to make that number greater than $16.9M.

Dunleavy, Butler, Snell, the 3 non-guaranteed guys, add to $10.9M, Randolph can not be included, unless they finish the trade under the cap, and Mirotic counts as $0 in trade. At $10.9M, you use $5M, instead of 150%, so they would be able to take back a maximum of $15.9M, which is still less than $16.9M.

The most the Bulls could pay Melo, without Boozer being included in the S&T, while keeping Rose, Noah, Gibson, Smith, and McDermott, is $16.9M. If you also dump Smith, and McDermott, you can get that to $18.7M, as long as you are willing to roll with Melo, Rose, Noah, Gibson, RMLE, and 8 minimum salary guys.

Adding Nazr, or Hinrich, at a subdtancial salary could make it legal, like Brooklyn did with Bogans last off-season.

I love the inside information people post on RGM, but let's face it........its wrong 99.9% of the time. It adds great drama to all of this though.

KC's new article. Talks about Lakers as potential leverage. Also says this:

"There are a lot of ways to get this deal done," said someone familiar with the Bulls' pitch to Anthony.

Now is when I tell Coldfish that he was right.

I had a massive lol at that.

I live here in LA most Lakers fans are bandwagon fans as long as they are winning they support but this past season was priceless I laugh my butt off.

I think sane Lakers fans realize that they're not getting Butler but I at least personally do wonder if the Lakers could get McDermott along with Boozer in a S&T. I do know the Lakers really liked McDermott this year and reportedly would have taken him at 7 if Randle hadn't been there. If they took such an expensive contract on, getting McDermott back seems reasonable. I think the Lakers would also be interested in the rights to Mirotic in a Gasol/Boozer swap. A
