Melo, Kobe, and Pau may not even make the playoffs in the West. This has to be leverage or Carmelo is just taking the early retirement for the glamor of LA.

Re: Melo 17: Death or Glory
the longer it takes, the better it is for us.
if he was to re.sign he would've already made it and announced it.
from my point of view if there is no news, it's because we haven't completed the deals we need to make so we can sign him.
breathe, he'll be a bull soon.

Actually the original story was that Carmelo's accountants were coming here, and along the way people changed that to lawyers. You know how that works.
To clarify people:
accountants, not lawyers
So that makes even less sense then?

Come on Fish, you're putting way too much stock into one player. PF is not the difference between competing and being that bad. OKC doesn't have a SF or SG. Miami has no PG or C. The list goes on and on. SA is obviously the exception because they play great team ball and have the right mix if complimentary players.
Like I said, their best shot was to sell Rose/Melo/Noah. And that's it.
OKC doesnt have a SF? You know they have this guy named Kevin Durant on the team right?
He sucks.
How bout no 4 then?

Why would his accountants come to Chicago? Don't they have quicken, excel and email?

Re: Melo 17: Death or Glory
I will be honest. If Lebron, Melo, and Kobe join forces I will give up on the NBA until at least Kobe retires.
That is too much.
That is literally like Magic, Michael, and Reggie Miller joining forces. Their frontcourt would have to be the worst in league history in order to lose any playoff series (barring injury).

Yeah because people dont travel for business all the time when they could do over email. Not saying they are but this argument is silly.

Exactly, as long as it isn't set in stone yet, I'm staying positive. Maybe the Bulls know something and are trying to get the nescessary trades together to get the contract settled and they are waiting for the official announcement from Melo to pull the trigger. Or NYK and Bulls are working on the sign and trade already.

Re: Melo 17: Death or Glory
No way am I buying Melo to LA in a STACKED west.
If LA can pull off Melo and LeBron, let those 2 pick out the coach, THEN maybe you got something.
I am not going to pretend to be a cap expert, but I would imagine you sign one, and S&T for the other. Or S&T for both.
Probably deal Julius Randle + Nash in a S&T to dump some major $$$ using Randle as the bait.
Or
Miami swoops in, pushes Bosh out and you are looking at Melo Max/ Lebron Max/ Wade reduced salary / and 1 other signing...
Just thinking out loud here of the potential nightmare scenarios.

No way Melo is sold on that, though. He doesn't want to play 4. And he does want someone back there to make up for his defensive lapses.
The entire pitch was that this was a great defensive team that Melo could just join and bring the missing offense we needed. Without Taj, we're not really that great defensive team anymore. Now, we're just a pretty good defensive team.
That's not the point though. Again, if I'm trying to sell a player I'm making sure I have all options available for him. Again I could be wrong, but having Taj there pretty much eliminates all the other options.
Besides, if you believe the reports out there, now we're offering to dump Taj and sign Gasol to get Melo. My point is, I think it's too late for that. That's all.

He's wrong. The OP was about attorney's not accountants.

Hey guys. So I just want to give you a piece of info I just heard. Last year I interned at Steptoe Johnson, a very large global law firm. I still keep up with some people there. A few of the senior partners are season ticket holders, and also do a lot of work with InCapital, which is owned by Tom Rickett, the Cubs owner. Anyway, word is, in the office, Melo's attorney's are heading into Chicago tomorrow. That is all I got.

I couldn't even begin to speculate about something I don't pretend to know anything about. I'm not a corporate accountant, nor do I require multiple accountants to manage my finances.
I'm sure you will find lots of takers here to speculate, though. Everyone was an expert when it came to imagining why the "lawyers" may/may not have been in town. At the end of the day, it's just another story that can't be fully substantiated or unsubstantiated. Take it at face value, a story told by a poster here and then corroborated by another poster here. Seems legit, but then again, he could have two accounts, no?
Make up your own narrative around it, it's more fun that way.
Melo's accountants are in town to valueate a property that he is buying in Winnetka. He wants a quick sale, so he sent his people out. He wants to be be fully moved in in 2 weeks so he can begin training with Rose.

On 4th of July weekend for no good reason? I'm all for taking a free flight somewhere for kicks on a weekday when I'd otherwise have to be at work, but when you could be at home doing it over email on a weekend?

This entire lawyers rumor was the exact same rumor with Lebron in 2010. The address to the lawyer was in my building so I went up there to investigate and the doors were locked. Anyways it's a common rumor apparently

Re: Melo 17: Death or Glory
I do think that melo not coming to a conclusion yesterday is a good sign for us. BUT the fact that we haven't heard anything about melo and the bulls since our first meeting with him is quite alarming. It's been all LA and NY for the past few days.
