Everyone saying we should throw the max at Bledsoe needs to slow down. He's young, has a lot of potential, great size for his position, and already a high level defender, but he is not an elite player yet. I would LOVE to have him, but max contracts should be reserved for the Lebrons, Chris Pauls, and Durants of the league. Bledsoe isn't quite there yet.

Whether we're top 5 bad or not, we're not going anywhere next year, so signing him at 10-12 million a year is a mistake IMO. We've finally gotten what we all want (rebuilding) and we don't know how to handle it. I think we need to just give Wolters the keys and see if he's a viable option.

Of the three options being presented here, taking on Lin for an asset is by far the best one.

Well, let me ask you this:

How often did you watch Bledsoe last season before his injury?

He was very very impressive. He has a lot of work to do on establishing a consistent jumper (including improving at the FT line) but there is quite a lot to love about his game. He's extremely explosive. He's extremely strong. He's extremely impressive defensively. He's unselfish. Just an all-around fantastic young player.

Unfortunately, we never have the chance to get an actual max level player so Bledsoe is as close to Paul, LeBron, and Durant as we can get currently.

If you pay him like the $10-$11 million player he probably is, Phoenix simply matches. Hell, they may just match the max.

I'd rather get Lin for a year and an additional asset(s) then risk overpaying Bledsoe.

I'm with you.

Last year when there were rumors of us getting Bledsoe, I was all for it. But we also had Kohl running things and knew a rebuild was out of the question. All has changed now. Also, who knows if he'll be the same player after his injury. Granted, ACL injuries aren't the kiss of death like they used to be, but for a player who's strength is his explosiveness, it does worry me some.

I'd definitely do the Lin deal if it means we're getting a draft pick/young player back.

Ideally I'd like to go into the season with Wolter as the starting PG and taking the bumps along the way.

Love Bledsoe but do not love his injury history. Pass and stay the course.

If we are insisting on getting a vet point, I'd look into acquiring Teague. Should be cheaper both contract wise and what you'd have to give up in assets and is a better true point guard.

So we finish with 25-30 wins, end up picking 8th in the lottery and have a chance at getting a good player or we go after a player that has more talent then anyone on this team and have a chance for our core to grow together. This current team is not as bad as people think, if Sanders and Ilyasova regains 12/13 form, we are a 30-35 win team

The only risk with Bledsoe in my opinion is injuries but that's a risk everyone takes when signing somebody to big money. He'd be expiring around the same time we need to spend on Giannis and Jabari, it really is a perfect time to sign Bledsoe. We'll know at the end of that contract if this team is going to work or if we need to blow it up(we're screwed regardless in this case) Overpaying Bledsoe doesn't matter, it sure hell beats signing a bunch of old role players to multiyear deals like Zaza/Delfino/Mayo. That's a max contract right there. Signing Bledsoe and tying up our cap is probably a good thing if it prevents deals like those.

It's just impossible to get him on a fair deal. I think he's worth about 8 mil a year.

You don't have to worry about signings like Zaza, Delfino and Mayo. That reign of terror is over.

If you believe Bledsoe is only worth 8M per you must believe the entire league is overpaid at PG.

Yea and gas should only cost a buck but that's not the world we live in today. There is no objective way you can say that Bledsoe is worth only 8M a season in 2014.

You typically have to overpay in free agency because the agents come "free." You don't have to spend a year tanking to get a high draft pick. You don't have to use that draft pick. You don't have to trade away other assets. They come at the price of money and cap space. As far as money goes, we have two billionaire owners. That's why we're excited about them. In terms of cap space, that is only beneficial if you're not reluctant to use it.

I'm not saying that Bledsoe is a lock for super-stardom, but let's not fear using our room under the cap. That's a nonsensical waste of an asset.

His worth is certainly closer to 8 than the max that he'll ultimately get.

But we have the king of asset management as our GM right now, so surely he could find other ways of successfully taking advantage of cap space.

After we've drafted our third young star to team with Jabiannis I'm all for adding higher priced talent. If we pull the trigger early were ruining all the progress we've made.

Enjoy the slow build guys. Rome wasn't built in an offseason.

Thats not what you said though. Generally you are forced to overpay in FA though. At least in this case we are getting a 24 year old high ceiling guy. Like I said ill be shocked if we land a better PG moving forward. I think its a better use of cap room than how we otherwise end up spending it.
