Once again...this isn't the nfl. You can't just stretch contracts out or change the terms after the fact. Otherwise the Bulls would do the same with their players.

Sure you can. You don't keep the player but you clear a lot of the deal off the books. Kobe's 2 years would be broken into 5. Nash's 1 year into 3.

In the NBA labor deal is what is called the “stretch provision,” which will help teams get rid of underperforming players on big deals. It can only be used on new contracts but here is how it works: If you want to get rid of a player you can buy him out then stretch out his contract on your books for double the length of the deal plus one year. For example, if a player is owed $20 million over two seasons and he gets waived, the team can stretch him out so his deal so on the official salary cap ledger he only costs them $4 million a season for five seasons.

Yeah that would mean Kobe wouldn't be on the roster anymore. Kobe isn't going to recruit Melo so the Lakers can waive him or buy his contract out.

On top of that, that team would win **** in the west with only Melo and lebron.

I didn't say he would be on the roster. I said they could sign Melo and Bron. And I showed how. If they talk Gasol into a discount, than they got a big. Marshall, Bron, Melo, Randle, Gasol can do damage in the West. Then they get the MLE, BAE and add a couple more pieces the following year.
