its not the pot itself that worries me, its more the commitment.

you get your chance, you do all you can to succeed. you know there is doubt about your judgement and character, you do your best to display that it isn't an issue.

Like drinking alcohol, you can be successful while using pot, but if either becomes too big a part of your life or impossible to live without, well then you have a problem.

Edit: I'm not saying Hairston has a problem, I wouldn't have a clue. I'm just concerned the parties could be a sign of his priorities.

i would say the important thing is not whether or not hairston smokes pot, it's whether or not he becomes a pothead who flakes out of the league.

so the same guy that bailed Josh Gordon out of jail in Raleigh is the same guy that owned the car PJ was driving in his incident. ugh. hope they did a pretty extensive background check. if not, flipping Hairston to Utah for Hayward might not be the worst idea of all time

Means nothing to me if the guy works. Which he's clearly shown - he never had anything close to a guarantee of being a 1st round pick once he went to the D-League. He could've been that guy to sit around all year and play himself into shape after not going to any workouts.

Guys party all the time. Not a big deal at all as long as he shows he can draw the line at the NBA level.

Smoking pot in college doesn't even register as an issue. My issue in the whole Hairston situation is that driving around a neighboring city in a car rented by a booster with a gun, a bunch of pot and baggies in the car when you're projecting to have a break out season before likely entering the draft just makes you a moron. You are literally treated like a god on campus. Why would you leave the confines of an environment that you control and will make you untouchable?

Like I said, its little to no risk for the Hornets using the 26th pick of the draft on him, and Hairston himself has lost millions of dollars because of his off-court activity. If he continues being a party animal and it affects his play, then thats just many, many more millions Hairston will lose and the Hornets don't have to sweat it by declining his option in 2 seasons.

So..............its up to P.J. Lets hope he makes the right choice.... I, for one, would be motivated as hell to make up the millions I lost if I had his talent and body.

Well you have to decide on an option a year in advance, usually around Halloween. For instance this October we have (obvious) decisions on MKG's 4th year and Cody's 3rd year.

Point remains though.

Agreed. You can risk a late first rounder on a guy like this, and if he pans out great. If not it isn't like it sets the franchise back for years.

half of twitter is dogging hairston for punching a high school kid in the face, the other half of twitter is dogging an nc state fan for making up a fake rumor about hairston.

good times
