Sap+Payne+2015 1st (could be lottery since we have rights to swap with the Nets) and 2017 1st rd pick

Is this with or without a guaranteed extension?

Really don't know why this has become all the rage. Love won't sign an extension anywhere - it's too restrictive to the player. The best we could hope for is that he opts into his PO for '15-'16... Which makes '17 draft picks out of the question really.

With our current contract situations, I don't think it is smart to trade away draft picks that far into the future (2017). The possibility of no Love and no Horford is very scary when it comes to not having your draft pick. I have seen the Braves makes this mistake all too often.

Braves? You can't trade draft picks in baseball... Or at least not until recently and we've never had one we could trade (only the Competitive Balnce picks can be traded). Think you may be thinking of a different situation... ?

He might be talking about when the Braves traded Neftali Feliz, Jarrod Saltalamacchia, and Elvis Andrus for Mark Teixeira a while back. Tex spent only a year with the Braves and was traded for Casey Kotchman, after it was realized that he wasn't gonna re-sign, while Feliz proceeded to break the rookie saves record in 2010 (which was broken by Kimbrel just one year later  ), Salty became an excellent catcher and was a force in the Red Sox's World Series run last year, and Andrus has become a very fine young shortstop, and is one of the best SS's in the AL right now. Braves didn't trade draft picks but the concept is the same with the Love situation being mentioned. I agree with uga_dawgs that we shouldn't be trading picks that late for a guy who could bolt after a year.

That's exactly what he was talking about. This trade still haunts the franchise to this day.

Terrible risk. No reward.

Two things:
1) I was thinking of this deal earlier after I posted...
2) It's really, really bad when you list the players in the trade that you believe we missed and still forget an All-Star (Matt Harrison).

Agree about the 1st though - as you can see in my post up top. I wouldn't mind giving up a pick/s with protections starting while the player acquired is still under contract, but once he's gone, then the fount should be dry.

Yea, I forgot all about Harrison. The Braves have better players than Nafteli, Andrus, and Salty at those positions (Kimbrel, Simmons, and Gattis), but they could've been extremely valuable trade chips while Harrison would've been an excellent lefty in the rotation. Man, now I'm bummed out :(

Saw a report claiming the cavs are set to send Jarrett jack to Brooklyn as soon as they find a third team to take on Marcus Thornton. assuming that it's true....

Any takers?

Depends on the sweetener that CLE and/or BRK is willing to add. Thornton is a worse player than Lou and shouldn't be on anything more than a Room or Tax MLE - if that. Due to our roster crunch and the fact that we'd be helping out a team whose draft we can swap with, I can't imagine that we'd be the team to pull the trigger, but if we could get more value than Nogueira then I think we have to look into it.

And maybe it would be simpler and cost less to get Jack as backup PG instead of Thornton

Have you looked at Jack's contract? It's really bad. Keep in mind that we dumped Bebe with Lou Will to clear up cap space.

I want no part of helping Cleveland or Brooklyn out in this deal and ATL explained why.

The East will be wide open if Lebron goes to Cleveland though. That team wouldn't be winning a title for at least the first 2 years unless they traded Wiggins for Love.

I think bebe dug his own grave by starting a countdown on twitter until he can leave his Spanish club. That's wildly immature and not what we want in our locker room at all.

I think if we can't sign Bazemore or deng and the salmons card isn't played to bring in another piece then taking on Thornton isn't a bad fourth option at all IMO.

Thornton gets the slight edge over Lou in my book.

Nice to know we have options.

Helping the Nets land Jack, when we have the option to swap picks next season, while we take on a grossly overpaid Thornton is a terrible option in my opinion.

We could easily get a better player out of the Salmons contract than Thornton and it wouldn't be helping a team that we are counting on to be bad next season.

I'm not a fan of Bazemore, but if he's signed, it means :
- we are making a trade with wing players (other than Salmons)
or
- we are not getting Deng

I thought he's was at 5M and with 15-16 unguaranteed.
It's actually 6.3M, and 16-17 almost unguaranteed.

So I should have check it first ;-)
