Wiz should also contact Marion and Vince Carter, they're old but might come cheap. They got experience, leadership, and hunger to win a championship before it's over.

Re: Per Michael Lee: Wiz contact Caron
pif, I don't think EG is fixated on signing old guys. I think he's looking for an insurance policy in the event Ariza doesn't resign, especially with Webster hurt. The Zards don't want to have to depend on Otto. Reaching out to Deng, Butler, Granger, Tucker, etc. make sense. Like you I'd prefer Tucker.
Oh...And the Zards do have one other youngster that I think can be an impact player---Rice.

WHAT is it with EG and Caron??? He tried to trade Ariza for Caron, and luckily, the Clips were stupid enough to say no.
HOWEVER, the article says that the Wiz have contacted Morrow, Granger, Deng, and Marvin Williams.
YES to Marvin Williams (and to a lesser extent, Morrow), but no to everyone else.
They could get CB to return on the cheap. He loved it here. I think he would see that as a fitting end to his career. Back to the playoffs with the team he was a core pick of. Maybe even vet min.
And CB might have a good KD Framly connection.
Swami. I was wondering about Granger as well. Worth a look if he is cheap.
CB works out on the courts at lifetime in centerville in off season- I almost asked him to join my framly but... I don't want him on wiz unless it's the min. CB another vet well past his prime- Our bench looks like a great 2008 team!
He really changed his game into a 3 pts shooter. 50% of his shots are from there last year and he made .441 of them while with OKC
Since 2013 he has shoot .390 on 6.3 attempts per 36 from 3 land in 134 game / 3298 minutes
That's still only 67 games a year in which we know is all you can expect the get out of CB. And I hear his defense has gotten kind of bad. His RPM last year was -4.73

That's Bennett bad. -3.54 was on defense which was 75th out of 78 SFs
So he is a utility player now. 3 pt specialist.
CB is and always will be a Wizard. He played 5 seasons here when he was in his prime. He should come home for the vet min and finish his career a Wizards. We have to start getting some serious tradition going here again. This would be a good start.

While Wall may take pressure off of him offensively, he takes pressure off of him and Beal defensively when there's tough two or one they cant handle. Caron Butler is a backup at this stage of his career and while I like Otto's potential, you're asking an awful lot for a kid to go from 2 mins a game to 35 (at least until Webster comes back). I'm guessing Deng is out of our price range but I'd like a guy who can defend nearly as good as TA and not embarrass himself offensively (like Thabo).
Glen is a good defender. So is Temple. And so is Otto.
PJ Tucker is also a decent defender.
If they want to go vet min, short contracts with Granger and Butler, that would be real interesting.
Short contracts on vet min class acts players doesn't bother me at all for a year while Wall, Beal and Otto get their grove going.
So yeah. Granger, PJ, Butler are good names for the right price.

I'd a hundred times rather have PJ Tucker than Granger, Deng, Caron or any of the retreads I'm having a hard time believing Ernie wants to bring in. How old does he want this team to be? Does he want to never add any future-oriented talent whatsoever after Porter?
We are not a young team, despite what people seem to think. We are one of the older teams in the league. The Spurs -- a veteran team if there ever was one -- has 4 guys 30 or older. Last season we had 5. Now we're trying to add someone like Caron or Granger.
We have two young guards that we like, and one young 3 that we hope we'll like. That's it for young players for whom there is any hope at all. 3 guys, one of them by no means sure to be good. That's not having a young core to build around. That's not bringing veteran role players to balance a young roster.
That's bandaids on bandaids on bandaids. We got lucky w/ Miller and Gooden at the end of last season. But this is not how you build a team.
Us being older then SAS isn't really true.
Our starters were Wall 24, Beal 21, TA 29, Nene 31 and Gortat 30 w/ Webster 27 and Gooden 32 and Prof 38
Their starter were Parker 32, Green 27, Leonard 23, Duncan 38, Splitter 29 w/ Manu 36, and Boris 32 and Patty 25
Our starters are younger and the bench is a wash at 97 vs 96 total age
This is one of those cases where some numbers/facts are better then others.

Re: Per Michael Lee: Wiz contact Caron
Glad to hear they are interested in Marvin Williams, it means they understand the value of getting a legit stretch 4 for Wall. I prefer Patterson, but restricted free agency is always a crap shoot. I'm thinking in this market Williams would use up the entire MLE.
Deng is obviously out of their price range. I am interested in both Caron and Granger, but only if they are willing to sign a 1 year minimum contract.
All this talk about SFs makes it seem like Ariza is out of the Wizards price range. Or maybe they've decided to play hardball with Ariza's agent

Butler is a makeshift 3pt specialist at this point in his career. Vet minimum with the expectation that he plays 10mpg or less is fine, anything more is really bad.

Re: Per Michael Lee: Wiz contact Caron
I still think Danny Granger could be the reclamation project of the year if the Wizards sign him and give him significant minutes.
This is a guy who averaged 25+ points per game just a few years ago. Then, Paul George stepped into the spotlight and cut down on Granger's usage. Then the injury. But ever since the injury, he's been reduced to a microscopic role on each team (yes, I know there's a reason for that). With an expanded role, I think you'd see some of the old Danny Granger, especially playing off of Wall.
Granger at his worst wasn't as bad as Caron was last season, and Caron is 3 years older.
Again, this is if we can't ink Ariza to a reasonable deal.

Im with miller on this, Miller would be a better pick up IMO, as a back up plan, because the main hope is that if ariza leaves, porter can step in and do a good job. plus being mentored by ariza on D last year, then being mentored by a scorer like granger, might do porter a lot of good. A 1 or 2 year vet min deal would be fine by me. But, we shall see, he might get scooped up by a contender some where.

I'd take Granger over Ariza when both are fit

I'd take Jerry West over Ariza if both were fit too.
It's a meaningless statement. The problem with Granger is that he isn't "fit" and isn't likely to be "fit" ever again. He's 31 years old and has missed 138 games in the past 3 seasons. Ariza is 29 years old and in his prime, and has just come off a career season in which he played 77 games.

Yeah I think Granger is done. I don't see a Grant Hill like late career revival in him. I think he's going to get paid for a few more years on the bench and then retire.

Granger is 31? Wow, that went by fast.
Yeah, keep Ariza.
Yeah, keep Ariza.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

I'm glad EG is checking in to good backup plans, but that's all they are right now. Hopefully we find out about Ariza sooner than later. Granger would be a fine backup plan - his risk should be worth his signing price.

Well, Granger is off the market. Heat just signed him for 2yrs/4.2mil. Great deal.

Report Wizards are in running for Humphries.
Potential Booker replacement. Assume it would be for MLE.

I've liked Morrow for a while now but I don't see what he brings to the table more than Webster. There is a bit of an advantage 3p%-wise but is it enough to offer a contract?

Outside of a Marvin Williams (or even Marion) that can play a stretch 4, I'm not sure many of these guys offer anything more than Webster.
Granted they all have a healthy back. SMH. But it's not like he won't eventually return.
