You are talking to me, so I will answer: If he were trying to leverage his way to Chicago, why not just put it out there publically that he has asked NY to sign and trade him to Chicago, and put the pressure on Phil Jackson to "behave" and capitulate?

Because if there was no third team present, Melo can't threaten the Knicks to S&T him and risk losing him for nothing. If he declares Chicago right away, it's guarantee PJ will extract the Bulls with assets, and Melo does not want that, because he will not be coming to a team that cannot contend for a title.

It could be Melo angling himself to play for a championship caliber contender, while getting his money.

Melo never made sense basketball wise, so he could using them as leverage for all we know, or he was sold after the Tobey Maguire short film.

I'm opting out of this process. I legitimately am having a hard time believing it is taking him THIS long to at least make his INTENTIONS known. He is overplaying his public relations hand (with me at least), by dragging this out into another week. I'll check in from time to time, but I've wasted enough time in my real life on this.

Because Phil has no obligation to capitulate to Melo. The only way Melo gets what he wants from NY is to have another option available that NY is worried enough about to fear losing Melo for nothing.

This whole 'leverage' angle might be wishful thinking on Bulls fans part - buts exactly how Melo would need to play it to force NY into working a S&T.

IMO, the only play the Bulls had was to get Melo via S&T. The only real leverage for the Knicks to agree to a S&T was losing him for no compensation. The only way Melo walks and the Knicks get nothing was a third team unless the Bulls gut the roster. So chatter is out that Melo may walk to LA increases the Bulls' leverage for the S&T. And if LA honestly thinks Melo will sign there, I'm pretty sure Phil will believe Jeanie.

He may not come but nothing has changed my belief that this is still Pax's play for Melo via S&T.

I agree 100%. I really don't see what else the FO could have done - sometimes people make decision that on the face have no logical reason behind them. We're going to blame the FO because Melo likes palm trees?

As I've said from the beginning - adding Rose and Mirotic to a 48 win team is more than 28 FO's are going to do this off-season. Lets see what GarPax can do on the second tier FA market.

DanTown and Coldfish mentioned this before FA started, and some other posters as well. We need the presence of a third team in order to convince PJ to facilitate a reasonable S&T. It is wishful thinking at this point, but who knows.
