That would be the best lineup in the NBA. If Lebron goes to Cleveland, I think it helps us with Melo. He'd see he can't compete with that if he's in NY.

if Lebron goes to Cleveland, we are screwed until that **** chooses to retire

Carmelo to Miami to replace Bosh makes no sense.

David Haugh just asked Brandon Marshall on 87.7 the Game if he had any insight on Carmelo since he has connections to the NBA and spent time with Melo in Denver.

Marshall said he doesn't. Now they're talking about DRose recruiting.

Miami ??? I got the impression they were going pretty hard after Luol over the last couple of days. Going after Luol sure doesn't seem to match with a possible Melo signing down there.

Amare had a degenerative knee condition.
Lee was not better than Boozer.
Scola? Please.
Gay? It's debatable at best - Gay is incredibly overrated.
Joe Johnson was our primary target but wasn't ever really on the FA market. ATL offered him the max of all maxes before FA even started.

David Lee >>>>>>>>>> Carlos Boozer

Yes. TODAY. But NOT in 2010. Any notion to the contrary is revisionist history at its finest.

If Melo has already chosen NY, and the money, what is he waiting for?

I think he is waiting for Miami to get resolved, as if Bosh moves on, he would jump at a chance to play with his buddy LeBron, even over NY.

It doesn't mean NY still might not be ahead of us, but it would remove a major risk if the Miami opportunity never materializes. They don't need an offer to be a threat.

MN would want Wiggins at the very least, right?

Bosh isn't much of a post presence anyway. Either Melo or Lebron could play it. The heat have been great at going small. Not sure going small would be my answer to San Antonio but hey what the hell.

That team would still get beat by the Spurs.

I think Melo's interest in LA could be real. I mean he could be leveraging for a sign and trade to Chicago, but he could also be very content on going to LA if Phil tries and calls his bluff.

While LA isn't a place where he will win anything anytime soon (they certainly won't be a contender next year), it's a better situations for him than New York at least playing wise. Also, it's a better situation for his wife.

So he may very well prefer a sign and trade to Chicago, but I think he would be perfectly content with going to LA if push comes to shove.

All in all, the leverage has always been in Melo's hands. Anyone that ever said New York had any leverage were probably homer Knicks fans.

Yeah, the deal they discussed involved Wiggins.

And that pisses me off royally.

I think waiting could help us eventually. Too much longer and LeBron is going to get ticked with Riley's inaction to improve the team and start looking elsewhere, and there isn't many 'elsewhere's' outside Miami where he can play with Melo. Most likely he goes back to Cleveland in that case.

That frees up Melo from our biggest competitor, Miami, and only leaves NY. I don't buy LA.

What's stopping Melo and James from calling Riley and getting it done ? Is there a reason they would have to wait on Bosh?

Technically no, but I think Riles would probably be more loyal to the guy that opted out willingly in order to help them improve the team, and just helped them win 2 rings the last 3 years.

I'm not sure Melo improves them over Bosh either tbh.

Yup. Nash, Kobe, Melo, Randle, Pau Gasol. Not a bad starting lineup. You'd need to line up good depth because of age, but resigning Kendall Marshall, Nick Young, and Jordan Hill gets you most of the way there.

And Mark Jackson is still floating around as a coaching option.

They could play it, but probably not for a whole game. That would also mean that they would have to defend the PF position and occasionally C. That would actually be quite amusing to watch...it might be worth it happening! Are there even any PFs or Cs left that the Heat could get in free agency?

Bill Simmons ‏@BillSimmons 9s

For NBA fans, what's the most fun free agency outcome? Isn't it LeBron to Cavs, Melo to Bulls and Bosh to Houston? That's an NBA earthquake.

Minnesota rejected that trade a year ago and it included the #1 overall pick.

Frightening. Hope Melo isn't waiting on Bosh. But he could be!

From the other thread.

Money aside, he doesn't have to wait for anyone. Wherever these guys end up, with him on the Bulls, we would have enough to counter.
