Any moves the Bulls are going to make have already been setup and are waiting for Melo to give his word (and possibly for the moratorium to end).

It's really a no-brainer which is why it won't happen.

Does that mean Melo doesn't have a brain? Because it's so logical and makes the most sense...

If anything, it will just prove Melo's "I'm tired of losing" rant was just bs.

Not really, just not tired enough of it to turn down 130 million guaranteed dollars. I know he can make it up by opting out and re-upping in a couple years. But it's still a lot of loot.

The LA thing I really don't get, that's strictly a lifestyle choice. If everything goes gangbusters that team looks like an 8th seed in the West to me.

The only one that really causes me any disgust is if he goes to the Heat, and even then he'll just turn into a shorter Chris Bosh. He addresses none of their issues whatsoever.

I really hate the 03 class - it could have been one of the best draft classes in basketball, but they might be the most harmful class in basketball with colluding, being soft. This has been horrific for NBA already and in the long run damage will continue.

If the Heat collude with no Bosh, they aren't winning unless they get some serious center. If they collude with Bosh, that's a different story, but who is going to do the dirty work?

I think in the long run, the NBA is going to do something to stop collusion (don't know what it is yet).

Either way, I really hope the Bulls are working on contingency plans (please Alec Burks be on it), along with some other creators.

If Melo had it his way he'd stay in New York with the Bulls team plus JR and California weather

Bingo.

Does that mean we'd have to wait for July 10th, though? Cause if we have to make moves and stuff first, can we officially make our offer to him? There'd have to be a lot of agreements made in principle aka showing your hand, which we don't like to do.

Idk. I hope we get some action soon but I just have a bad feeling in regards to the punctuality of this whole thing.

So now what's the hold-up?

This is like some tantric sh*t.

Ratings...

Got to keep all those top markets interested.

I'll be entirely honest, I never thought it was likely (above a 50% chance) that Melo was coming to Chicago. Nothing has really changed my mind. But this delay, to me, means one of two things...

1. Melo is waiting for the Bulls and Knicks to complete a sign and trade.
2. Melo is waiting on Lebron.

NY and LA's offers have been there for days and aren't changing. No real reason to wait that I can see. Of course that's me seeing things through my lens. Who knows what millionaire athletes are thinking about.

I think that's a logical way to look at it. I can't see the delay being a good thing for NY.

Hopefully he's using LA as leverage to get to Chicago. (What a trip that would be for Phil). Essentially telling Knicks FO, sign and trade me to Chicago, or I'll leave and go to LA and you get nothing.

I really don't see how LA benefits Melo though, outside of a better climate and a better situation for LaLa's acting career. Plus playing with Kobe and hand picking vet min guys is probably better than playing with JR Smith. But NY and LA aren't good basketball situations for this upcoming season.

Seriously. I guess I'm just a big idiot. Somehow, when they said a Melo decision was expected by the end of the weekend, I was dumb enough to buy it. Ugh. I don't care anymore, I'm just sick of all the nonsense. Just decide already.

People have started to say it, but the fact that we've heard lots of things about everyone else, except from Melo or our front office, could be a possibility. From the Bulls perspective, it seems that we ain't worried bout nothin.

We've got ourselves a classic Mexican standoff, with LeBron, Carmelo, and Bosh as the opponents. I have no sources and I haven't read any more rumors, but I think Lebron will be the first to make a move. He's the most important piece that's allegedly in play, and his decision will make life easier for the other two.

They said he was expected to take the weekend to make a decision. Taking a weekend to think something over means having an answer some time on Monday to me, not Sunday afternoon.

He gets out from under the luxury tax and the amount of money he would have available next year would be awesome. He could get his pick of free agents and have the space to absorb all kinds of contracts if he wished. Plus, he would end up with a pretty good pick next year in what looks like another loaded draft.

A sign and trade wouldn't likely impact how much the Knicks pay next year - they'd have all that room anyways because they'd be taking on aTPE or exprings or, at worst, small contracts.

And the Knicks aren't likely getting out of the LT. They saved a couple million on the Chandler/Felton deal, but are still more or less at the Tax without a full roster. I guess they could use none of their exceptions this year and role with just signing the 2nd rounders, which would put them over the cap but not in the Tax... but does Phil really want to have that kind of roster for the year?

Not only that, but given that the Bulls can send non guaranteeds, etc. (the TPE), a sign and trade might not increase salary, or even could reduce the Knicks payroll. So I don't know that those first round picks would cause the Knicks to go into the tax.

The way I see it, he should be able to get under the LT easily if he so desires, and if he cares about the business side of things (maybe not). Right now they have 9 guaranteed guys at about $60 million or so. Yes, he has to add some guys, but he shouldn't end up too far over the tax and he has all year to get under. And if he just adds minimum guys or so, he begins what NY really needs to do--re-build from the ground up.

5th year is the only difference (but he realistically would have another contract waiting). He would make significantly more in Chicago on a 4.5% increase, than in NY on a 7.5% increase.

Yep, Windhorst said the only real difference in money is the fifth year.

Thankfully someone in the media with a brain.

I bet Bulls offer 3 year ETO, so Carmelo will have option to extend with Bulls or another team for another 3-4 years (maybe?) at age 33. Point being this will not be his last guaranteed contract (if he signs somewhere other than NY), whereas in all likelihood the 5 year contract with NY might be. Of course, if he is injured or declines precipitously, there is no substitute for the 5 year guarantee. Anyway, the money thing is getting annoying because I refuse to believe the Bulls offered $16 mil and that is it (and reportedly is not true), yet everyone in NY and LA media are latching onto that.

Return to Chicago Bulls
