SAS says Philly willing to take Amare if Shump and some other “nuggets” are thrown in.

Eh, I am not sure what trading Amare or Bargs will really get us. Even Pau may still be a long shot.

But at least its an option. Fairly obvious, but if it gets us anything better then Shump then its worth it,.

Don't worry. We don't even have the assets to unload Amare's contract ($23,410,988). Some teams traded a first round pick only to get of a $5 million player. Even if they have the cap space, no team will swallow $23 million only for Shumpert and a couple of second rounders. Makes no sense at all.

Excuse me, how much are we paying Amar'e?

If we do dump Amare, who does that free up space for? Pau?

OK - but I think a preference for a team like Philly - would be to take on 1-year of salary (ex Stat) if it can also secure an additional young asset (Shump or THJ) -- rather than just pay out their existing players.

That's conjecture.

But the astute fans who really want to put this sort of scenario should do the math and see if such a transaction puts the Sixers AT/near or OVER the floor. Because those are two VERY different scenarios.

Every dime OVER the floor is a dime coming out of the Sixers pockets that they don't have to pay. That remains in their coffers as they try to rebuild.

Is there a Stat scenario that places the Sixers on the floor rather than millions OVER it?

As I say, the smart fan thinking this is a realistic scenario would be doing that math right now.

Not that I expect it to happen, but Philly, with Amare and Shump, and without signing any of their draft picks yet would be at $52,002,216.

I assume they have to get to within 90% of the cap minimum? Which would be $50,623,200.

The floor is 90% of the cap. So it'll likely be about $57m.

Also key to remember, your payroll isn't calculated until the end of the year. Doesn't mean a whit if you're under the floor at the beginning of the year.

So all of this could be that LeBron wants Melo to replace Bosh, but doesn't have the balls to tell Bosh? So he gets him to opt-out, then stops returning his phone calls, and hopes Bosh signs elsewhere. Then LeBron re-ups in Miami with Melo?

LOL... not my take, but if you put a few reports together that is one theory out there.

SAS said Knicks/Sixers are not talking....but he said his sources in the sixers front office said they would take Amare.

He does have connections in Philly so I would think its more true then false

I know everyone is giddy over the possibility of moving Stat, but unless Pau leads to Marc, is he a big enough upgrade over Stat to give up Shump and salary room next year for? Why move Stat/Shump and maybe another piece or two for Pau unless you have a really strong belief that they can get Marc next summer?

I'm not entirely sure Melo goes to Miami even if Bosh leaves. That extra year and the higher yearly amounts could still make Melo stay.
