Seems like that's another 5M of room eaten up. So what does that do to Melo's room if Bosh goes?

They are over with cap holds I believe. So unless the Heat lose Bosh, then I think they stay over. So this could mean that none of the 3 is going to leave?

Someone more familiar with rule details should help.

King was indeed a monster. He never had a Robin with him so everyone and their mom knew exactly what was coming and who was getting the ball and they still couldn't stop him. King wasn't the tallest guy or the most athletic guy but he was mentally and physically about as tough as you can get. And his instincts were just otherworldly. With the other team throwing 2, 3 even 4 guys at him on a regular basis, he still was able to get his shot when he wanted and a lot had to do with instincts. If you throw a smaller guy at him he was instantly in the post backing the guy down. If you try to cover him with a big man, as soon as that guy made a move up towards King, King would already be on the floor going by him. He was lethal from the baseline and he could absorb pretty much any hit he received (and players were allowed to hit a lot harder then than nowadays) and still keep his form on his shot. The only drawback was that all the abuse he took on the court eventually caused his shortened career but when he was one, he was about as unstoppable as you can get on offense.

Wow Dogg, Bernard was praised, by both Larry Bird and the Doctor as their toughest match up in the NBA, during the day. 20 for 28 in that game, plus I learned that he averaged 28 rebounds a game in HS. wut?

Isola: Melo torn between Knicks, Lakers and Bulls.

Carmelo Anthony 'torn' between Knicks, Lakers, Bulls
Knicks president Phil Jackson, despite hints to the contrary, offered Anthony a max deal of five years, $129 million. The best the Bulls can do is $75 million over four years. If it was just about taking the most money, Anthony already would have announced his intentions to rejoin the Knicks. But Anthony is intrigued by the Bulls as well as the Lakers, who have the ability to give Anthony a max deal ($96 million) over four years.

Eh...too bad. Would have been nice to have him on the Knicks.

ehh I would rather have Booker.

I wouldn't mind Booker either. He plays with such great intensity and physicality every time I watch the Wizards.

I guess the cap holds for Lebron, Wade, and Bosh

since they officially can't opt out and sign a new contract they are still on the books for Miami.

but the problem is if LeBron takes the max. And wade takes appox 12 million. That's 34+mcboobs 5 million. You are right around 40 million for 3 players. That would mean with Napier, Cole, and there cap holds talking about Melo needing to take 18 million his first year to go to Miami.

But LeBron and Melo could both take 20 million to make it work.

But I don't see the allure of Melo and LeBron with a broken down wade + Mcboob.

This Summer:

Amare Stoudemire: $23.5 mil
Carmelo Anthony: $20 mil (slight paycut)
Andrea Bargnani: $11.5 mil
Jose Calderon: $7 mil
JR Smith: $6 mil
Dalembert: $4.4 mil (15% due to trade kicker....2 mil unguaranteed)
Wayne Ellington: $2.7 mil
Iman Shumpert: $2.6 mil
Pablo Prigioni: $1.7 mil
Shane Larkin: $1.6 mil
Tim Hardaway Jr: $1.2 mil
Lamar Odom: 1.5 mil (unguaranteed)
Shannon Brown: 1.3 mil (unguaranteed)
Jeremy Tyler: $950k (unguaranteed)
Total: $86 mil
Apron: $81 mil

1) Cut Dally, Brown and Tyler to cut payroll down to $80mil (under the apron)

2) S&T Larkin + Ellington + Prigioni for Pau Gasol (6 mil each for 3 years)

3) 1 year mini-MLE ($3mil) for Emeka Okafor (brings us above apron which is why we can't use full MLE)

4) TPE (up to $3.8mil) + future 2nd for Gary Neal

5) Sign rest of bench with 1 yr vet mins and rookie contracts

2014-2015 Roster
PG: Calderon/Neal
SG: Shumpert/THJ
SF: Melo/JR Smith
PF: Amare/Bargnani
C: Gasol/Emeka Okafor

Next Summer:

Carmelo Anthony: $18 mil (7.5% decrease)
Jose Calderon: $7 mil
Pau Gasol: $7mil (7.5% raise)
JR Smith: $6.4 mil
Iman Shumpert: $4mil (caphold)
Shane Larkin: $1.6 mil
Tim Hardaway Jr: $1.2 mil
2015 1st round draft pick: ~$1.3 mil
Cap Holds x5 : $2.5mil
Total: $49.0 mil
Project Salary Cap: ~$66.5mil (conservative estimate of 4.5% increase)
Projected Salary Cap Space: $17.5mil

6) Sign Marc Gasol or Lamarcus Aldridge. Gasol is more realistic cause LMA will def resign and Gasol has his brother here.

7) Trade JR Smith (expiring) + THJ (if he doesn't pan out) for Thad Young (in case Pau gets injured at his advanced age)

8) Use 1st round pick (maybe for a defensive big), MLE (like Lou Williams), vet mins (like Danny Granger) and 2nd rd picks to round out bench.

2014-2015 Roster
PG: Calderon/Lou Williams
SG: Shumpert/Granger
SF: Melo/Early
PF: P. Gasol/Thad Young
C: M. Gasol/1st Round Pick

Overall, our next season would be decent (2nd rd out) but the season after that would have so much potential (assuming everyone stays healthy).

Then they won't be.

Remember, can't REALLY do anything until the 10th. ALL deals are just verbal deals.

If Melo and Bosh leave, then Roberts (and I assume he knows this) will have to choose between the room MLE OR going back on the market.

If they're just using their MLE, what was the point of Bosh and Wade opting out?

Couldn't they just have used the MLE after Bosh and Wade opted in?

Doesn't this mean the Heat will not have any cap room, and they're done except for other smaller exception signings (or trades)?

Yeah. King had something referred to I believe by some as "the zone". He had such focus and instincts that everything else around him seemed to be going in a slower motion. If you are familiar with baseball at all, Rod Carew (one of the greatest contact hitters of his day) used to say (when asked by reporters how he can hit so well) that when he's focused up at the plate the pitched ball seems to be moving in slow motion. Ted Williams and several other great baseball players used to say that as well.

My sources are indicating that Lebron has agreed to re-sign in Miami if Riley can convince Melo to take 4 years and 80 million to sign with the Heat. The Heat are not interested in doing a sign-and-trade with the Knicks to tack on an additional year to Melo's contract as Riley does not want to give any tradeable assets to the Knicks and PJ
