It's not really small ball if McRoberts is starting at PF. Bosh is a little undersized at C but not so much that it's worth calling small ball. That really only makes sense when we started SFs at PF (Lewis/Battier) next to our slightly undersized C.

Yeah man! He is a bigger, younger and super athletic version Lewis at this point in their respective careers. Lewis obviously has had the more successful career of the two, but McRob has just started blossoming!!!

If any of us don't know McRob very well, his athleticism will blow them away next year 8-) It's good to to be young and McRob!

I honestly don't see anything wrong with chalmers as a backup guard. As a starter we tried to squeeze too much out of him in order to make up for wade. Didn't work too well.

I literally poured two cold ones and touched glasses with my friend in celebration after Napier was drafted. Not because I like Napier, just because I assumed it meant no more Chalmers.

I can't watch the vid right now but I know McRoberts is versatile and even a good passer for a big man with 4apg. I like the signing because he IS an upgrade on our roster

McBob and Granny Danger have potential to help this team but which of the major holes do they really fill? McBob is just a hustle big man like Bird not known for his defense or rebounding. No C and no PG besides Napier. Good to see Riley is making moves but im hoping for more.

Add that too the lil fake tough guy act with Lebron, his dead knees, and I wish we didn't sign him.

Here's my problem with McBob: we're still going to be a really bad rebounding team. We're still not going to have any rim deterrent. And we're still going to struggle with post scorers. So we're still going to have to over-rotate to prevent penetration, still going to get crushed on the glass, and still going to get torched from 3 because we over-rotate.

So what does he really do for us? He improves our passing, okay. Shooting? Meh, he's just about a wash with Rashard/Battier. Maybe we're a little better offensively than we were yesterday, but defensively, we're nearly as bad.

And Danny Granger doesn't solve any of these issues, either.

As a team, our flaws are the following: lack of playmaking from the PG spot, lack of athletic wing defenders, lack of rebounding, lack of shot-blocking, lack of post defenders. Do McRoberts or Granger erase any of those issues? I don't think so...

The McBob signing is growing on me by the minute. Really liking it now. 27 years old (in prime), nice niche with passing, and his capability of stretching the floor. Also pretty athletic, so he can cover ground defensively good enough in our system. In a market where Jodie Meeks got 19 million over three years, we couldn't do much better than that. He fits.

I'm not a fan of Granger. Guy looked pretty cooked last year. But we'll see how that pans out. Ennis should really shoot pass him.

I've always viewed the term "small ball" as referring to the scheme/concept of playing a finesse game with the 4 and 5 away from the basket as floor spacers and 3 pt shooters. I think that is still what McRoberts gives you. Bosh has always been tall enough to be a C and LeBron has always been tall enough to be a PF (same with Battier/Lewis). I would still view the style we'd likely play with a Bosh/McRoberts/LeBron/Wade/Napier or cole lineup as a 'small ball" lineup. And I have no real problem with that, as "small ball" has been pretty effective for us.

I still see a spot on the roster for Lewis, especially after he started getting big minutes in the playoffs and played pretty well. He's made a lot fo money in his career and won't be getting big money from anyone else anyhow. I could see him taking a vet min deal from us in lieu of a mini-MLE from someone else.

The only person that matte is Lebron.

Let's hope HE likes these guys.

LeBron offended by Pat Riley's speech? Thought HE was being called out - "don't run"? That's what StephenA & BWindhorst heard.

This is the Miami Heat not the Miami Lebrons, if he doesn't like it and leaves then screw him, we'll have space to sign other players.

Funny that SAS thinks that way now. On the day of the press conference, SAS said he loved what Riley said on First Take.

I know the media is reporting we are signing McRoberts and Granger for our exception money but Riley carefully crafted his statements to not mention anything about terms. Would not surprise me if we are operating as a cap room team and have 1 or 2 more signings to come at more than vet minimum money. just a hunch..

Granger is not going to have a big role in this team

We always sign vets, tho granger isn't even that old but he is injury plagued
We have Ennis to replace him anyway which will happen

I guess we're getting nuanced here, I always thought the term for what you described as more "pace & space", and small ball more about emphasizing quickness over size. The two seem to go hand-in-hand but McBob lets us play pace-and-space without going "small". It's all semantics though, I think conceptually we're on the same page

I guess if he bounced back to his old form, could be nice. He's only 30 YO.
