Anyone remember this? It was from back in January.

Wow, he's definitely leaving now. Totally forgot about this.

Melo would make money in Chicago too. On top of elevating his status as a player. #1 player on #1 team in the East.

She would also know that she would have a chance to get consistent air time in Chicago with Oprah leaving. I feel people purposely forget that we are a big city too so why can't she have a show that is in one of the biggest markets in America.

My god, there were so many reports in Melo being ready to sign with NYK in 24 hours like 72 hours ago. Sports journalism is a joke.

I like the way he put that. Its just not his nature to be that outgoing and demonstrative.

refreshing comments after Dan Bernstein absolutely went in on him today.

This guy lives to rip on Derrick.

Refreshing? No one is asking Derrick to go on ESPN and beg for Melo. Talk to him for 20 minutes, tell him he should come and play in Chicago. Go to dinner. How difficult is that even for someone who's not outgoing? Really? From all accounts, all the players around the league love Derrick, so he must have SOME rapport with guys.

Guess the Bulls FO was very disappointed that Derrick chose to not go to dinner w/ everyone. Then when his camp leaked that it was a surprise and he didn't know Melo was coming? Terrible.

that is not pennys here, if this is true i can see why he didnt agree to us right away, some people has said we did offer the max, and we had moves on the line to dump salary, thats bs , i feel is we offered carmelo the max he would have commit to us already.

Ralph reported that Melo was offered 2 deals. IIRC ab $16M with Taj or max w no Taj.

well i hope so, i just feel that isnt the case, i dont see you at 30 years old basketball prime you are ready for your decline, and the first 5 picks in the 03 draft have rings, and you want to join the Lakers, with a rookie PF, a questionable declining injury prone as of lately Kobe? thats more desirable then the Bulls, a team that has won 48 frickin games, without Rose or Deng? Really? Rondo has said where one peice away, van gundy, Barkley, George Karl, and everybody says how Melo is what we need? I JUST DONT SEE HOW WERE NOT ATOP HIS LIST.

No, they should have had that done weeks before we even had a chance to talk to Melo. And I'm sure the avenues to clear up space or whatever we need to do wouldnt be very difficult anyway

You don't know that they haven't and just aren't moving on them until they have a commitment. It's hard to know anything for sure.

Not without a verbal commitment from Melo. They learned from last time.

Is there a difference between being MJ and Barkley for her? It's all the same...famous, rich and well known in your city.

I understand that Melo has a lot to overcome in terms of convincing his family...

There are great talk show opportunites in Chicago, at least, which keep Lala in the spotlight.

I can see this thirsty show re-branded, "Live! with Lala". Maybe like the View type of show, where Lala and her friends (Larsa, etc) can just talk fashion & gossip all day.

Man after 20 Melo threads...people still don't know what we offered Melo.

Bulls offered Melo his max via a sign and trade, according to local guys. National dudes keep saying we can't offer more, even though that's technically true.

That's the oddest thing about all the national coverage - and even the local coverage. They keep pounding away on the 'maximum cap space' number that the Bulls can offer, instead of actually considering a very plausible sign-and-trade scenario that can get Melo the same money. That 16-17 million option is only one option that the Bulls could use. I don't think anyone has come out and said that the Bulls refused to explorer sign and trades. And we've only heard that Jackson would prefer not to take back Boozer. But there's been many times when a team has been rumored to not want to take a certain guy and they end up taking a certain guy.

The Bulls aren't going to move anyone unless they get a verbal from Melo. Last time they dropped Hinrich thinking they could get something. They won't make that same mistake again.

Brandon Marshall is so loyal to this city and so active in the community despite only being here a few years. The guy is a true leader. There's athletes that have been here for way longer and do far less.

I was thinking closer to 83 wins.
Kris Bryant will go down as the greatest Chicago athlete after MJ

That show is so awful.

Did you see the episode with Hannibal Buress? All they talked about was how entitled Justin Bieber AND Derrick Rose were.

I don't understand this. The big 3 opted out, right? That means that the Heat were under the cap.

If I remember right from our discussions about Mirotic, all the exceptions count towards the cap.

Looking again at Coons FAQ, that seems right. (http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q26)

The question then would go, for resigning guys, how far over could the Heat go. I guess that would be the "apron" of 4 million over the Tax line? (http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q28)

But then you have the issue of "cap holds" on the big 3, since in order to resign them and go over the cap, the Heat will need to exercise "Bird rights." (http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q37 and http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q38).

If, somehow, 2 of the big 3 got their bird rights renounced to eliminate the cap holds, but still signed, and everything was timed just right... maybe?

Very charismatic too. As far as "pitch men" to try and convince athletes from the outside to come here, I can't think of many better.

Return to Chicago Bulls
