if we're capped out, then yep, that's all that's left

so then as a capped out team.. does that mean that the big 3 and Haslem are taking all of the cap? I don't get how we would b capped out if they all take less than what would make up most of that 62... is it cap holds? would we be able to sign a player in the space that would make up any money that they may leave on the table?

edit: articulated that pretty poorly.. basically asking if being capped out mean that even if the big 3 take a little less we cant add a player into that capped out space that would have held the extra money going to the big 3?

For the last time, Thomas does not work for us as a starter. Our starting backcourt would be a joke defensively with Wade/Thomas. We need to improve our defense not bring in a 5'9 PG with a declining Wade whose defense is slipping.

Wade and Thomas are both pretty good defenders. I realize that you are convinced otherwise, but their defensive metrics are pretty good. There aren't many PGs whose game really makes them take advantage of a height advantage.

Wade's defensive abilities were on full display during the finals (horrible man to man defense, inexcusable rotations, abysmal effort). Remember, he is only going to get older and this year he actually went into the post season and the finals "Healthy". Imagine if he is bruised up or injured slightly next year, how awful will he look then ?

Thomas is good for us on the offensive end but defensively we will be severely lacking which was the main reason we lost to the Spurs.

If Boozer is amnestied, do you take him still?

I would

Thomas is an AWFUL defender and I'd imagine he'd want something like 7mil per. Seems as though the only member of the "big three" that you can bet the house on that will remain in Miami is Wade, since no team would give him the max or close to it like they would for James and Bosh.

You're entitled to your opinion and I'm entitled to mine. :-?

Lol my bad, bro. I didn't mean to come off as that aggressive. I have had this conversation with a few posters who are very high on Thomas for some reason. He could work as a bench guy but as a starter we are going to absolutely dominated defensively with Thomas/Wade.

Lol, you're cool man. All that matters is that we win. I think the Big 3 comes back. I'm optimistic that the moves we make will make us even more competitive than we've ever been and we'll make the sports world jealous all over again.lol. #VivaLaFcknHEAT

Yeah, even if they take pretty nice paycuts, those guys will still probably take 45-50M of our 63M in capspace alone. Then you add in Cole, Napier, Bird's Bird rights as another 4M, and capholds of about ~3M and the Big 3 + those other 3 is about 52-57M of our capspace.

So the cap clearing approach was always going to be difficult. If we keep UD's and Ray's rights as well then we go over the cap and so be it, we can bring back our guys, pay them fair money, and still add 1, 2 or even 3 rotation players. (McBob, Granger, Ennis, Napier). You also hope for maybe some internal growth (Beasley, Oden, Wade with a full offseason w/o treatment and rehab).

Yes. My estimation is we're acting capped because we're not renouncing the Big3. We're signing with exceptions and probably signing the Big3 to decent contracts that don't trigger the repeater tax.

The timing of news is also interesting. No signing news until it happened, then only now do we hear that Pat is giving assurances about the Big3. That's not scutto, because that's likely coming from the agents of McBobs and Granger. The timing is too uncanny otherwise. That means Pat is promising the Big3. That's my davinci code puzzle assembly. :D

Thomas had a DRPM of -1.63, Wade had a positive DRPM but it's easy to see his defense his slipping and he just isn't consistent on that end anymore. One of the biggest strengths of Wade used to be his motor on the defensive end, hell even in 13 playoffs he did a good job on PG. In these playoffs his defense slipped incredibly against the Spurs and even against the Pacers he wasn't that good defensively.

Let's be honest - IF, and granted it's a IF, Oden/Napier/Ennis can reach their potential..they can be as productive as any free agent out this summer. All 3 have a real chance IMO.

I think this gives us a SMALL chance to keep Lebron.

A small chance, but a chance.

and BTW - im calling it now - big 3 take a discount and we get another good free agent for around 5-6 Mil per first year.

I don't think these signings, as weak as they are, would happen if Lebron and Bosh were not set to return.

Oh damn. The agreements made are assuming capped status, but if we delay the signings, can we bid on Boozer in the silent auction for below cap teams? I don't think that works.

Otherwise we have to wait for him to clear waivers and offer him the vet min. Which he would probably take since Chicago would be on the tab anyway. But they're not amnestying him unless they get Melo.

Morrow is likely asking for more than the Bi-Annual. If he ends up taking a similar salary though
then the Granger signing would look even worse than it does now.

No one will know but Riley and Elisburg. We have no idea what money Morrow is asking for or if he was even interested in signing with us.
