Correct me if I'm wrong, but the difference between Melo and us and those three situations, is that in the 2010 signings, those teams had cap space to sign them outright.

We had 30M in cap space in 2010.

that's why the LA offer is sort of good for us

I gotta write again what I keep thinking ... Melo is not what Phil Jackson and the Knicks really need or want ... AT THAT PRICE.

George Karl was just on ESPN talking about why Melo should not pick the Knicks. Was saying that Melo's game and PJ's game do not mesh at all. The Knicks are at least two seasons away from having ANY juice. Etc.

All of the reasons why Melo should not pick the Knicks are also reasons why PJ should not be enthusiastic about paying Melo nearly $30M/year when Melo is 35 years old. The Knicks' offer just does NOT make sense to me. I believe that PJ can't be especially enthusiastic about this contract happening. I'm just saying ...

We had the cap space in 2010 but not enough of the interest. Now it's reversed in 2014.
But again, we can easily clear the cap space if the player will commit.
