Porter is going to have a chance to apply all that stuff he learned from Ariza and maybe even gooden ? I'm so pumped, less than a week away!

There is a reason he did not get any playing time

Maybe that will change this year if he is ready "Healthy".

There is more than 1 reason. Ariza and Webster are both starting calieur players in their primes. Porter is a rookie who missed a lot of preparation time due injury.

I was so surprised by Rice Jr's listed weight of 252 lbs that I didn't notice Otto Porter's modest weight increase at first. He was listed at 6'8", 198; he's now listed at 6'9", 206.

That's not bad for a year's work, considering his build.

Yeah, especially since he already had a half-decent upper body. I'm hoping most of those 8 pounds are in the legs and haunches. I wonder if he actually grew an inch? That could ultimately open up some stretch-four prospects down the road when he's done filling out.

Not sure. He was listed @ 6'8.5" with shoes in DraftExpress, so perhaps he's floating between 6'8" and 6'9" on various sites.

According to the Wizards summer league measurements from last year Porter didn't grow and he only gained 1 pound.

Porter is who he is. 21 years old, been hitting weights at Georgetown/around trainers etc. It's just his metabolism.

His legs are rail thin, it's just his body type. I don't expect Noel to get much bigger either. It's near impossible to pack on lean muscle weight when you're that tall with an extremely fast metabolism running 6-7 miles a day. If you don't have any fat, your body burns muscle sadly.

See:
Kevin Garnett
Kevin Durant
Tayshaun Prince
Jamal Crawford

Doesn't particularly concern me. Just gotta hope he has strong tendons, give the boy glucosamine.

Of course they could try the Shawn Bradley route and give him 10k calories a day, amusingly that did nothing for the Nets/Philly/Dallas. He remained rail thin and weak.

Marcin Gortat sticks up for Otto Porter on Twitter

During an interview as Washington's Summer League is set to get underway, Otto Porter put Marcin Gortat on the hook after the Wizards center signed his $60 million contract this offseason.

Wizards Insider J. Michael tweeted the young Wizard's comments. Shortly after the news got to Twitter, a fan responded with a criticism of the second-year forward. Gortat responded to the criticism in defense of Porter.

Well espn has him listed t 6'8 198, so its possible he actually did add some true muscle. he could have lost some "baby fat" before the ESPN measurements were taken and he might have gained that back as Muscle.

198 to 206 = 8lbs. Not terrible. 1/2 per month is very sustainable. We won't know how big/strong he will be for another 2 years. If he continues at this rate - he will close in on 220 - which should be fine.

Right?

I don't think this kid will be good for another 2 years. Barely 200 lbs at 6'9? You gotta be kidding me.
Like I said before. I am hearing the same excuses we all made for Jan Vesely. Not gonna fall for this again.

Another nice game by Noel today.

I suspect last year's draft is going to yet again be one that we regret years from now. :(

Vesely and Porter aren't the only skinny guys to play in the NBA.

I don't understand what "fall for this again" means. That he's going to be a stiff like Jan? That he can't shoot a FT? That he has no semblance of an offensive game? If you watched him at G-town, he was a pretty damn good player. Close to being great. Doubt he'll be an All-Star because he lacks explosiveness and a great handle but with a little more strength and time, he will be pretty good. Now people keep pointing to Kevin Durant because he's the second-best player and he's skinny but he also has 30 foot range and incredible length. He'd likely be the best player in the game if he added another 10-15lbs and decided to work on a post game.
