You need to give Spo some credit. He's always late in making adjustments, but he does eventually make them. 3 point defense is probably going to be his focus this season.

why?

we made it comfortably to the finals without them

we got absolutely zero from chalmers/cole and wade played pretty bad as well as bosh vs spurs

why do you think we need another player of that quality to win?

give me some actual reasons all ive seen you say since you signed up here is negative sh** about the heat

Rio and Cole are inconsistent, they might not do much better if they are in the finals next year.

Wade might have health issues with his knees and he cannot be counted on to be a big time player.

Bosh may not play better because of his style, he doesn't play well against Duncan and unless he is hot from outside he doesn't do much. His role could be bigger but it is risky to count on him being able to be a legit #2 option.

I don't like giving the MLE to a player like McBob because now the heat won't be able to get an impact player. They have to hope they can get a few bigs like Humperies, Patric Young, Jordan Hill and Emeka in order to compete.

Norris Cole (his rookie season) got minutes in the 2012 finals and helped us come back against okc in game 4.

Overall, Thomas gave up 0.83 PPP on 37.7% shooting, which puts him in the top 20% among NBA players. In isolation, he was a little better -- 0.76 PPP on 32.6%. He was good defending the PnR ball handler -- 0.73 PPP on 37th, which is about top 12-13%. And he held spot up shooters to 34.4% shooting and 0.89 PPP. Those are all soldi numbers. The Kings defense gave up 4.3 points per 100 possessions fewer when Thomas was on the court than when he was off it. His opponent counterpart's PER was below average. So no, his advanced defensive stats are not all lacking.

Dude, you don't need advanced stats to prove that Thomas isn't a bad defender. NBA players don't pick on midget players 8-) but believe me, if Thomas was a Heat, THEY WILL!!!

Don't really understand your post. Few PGs have a game that will take advantage of a height advantage as few have any kind of post skills. Thomas was posted up for just 30 FGAs last year -- roughly once every 3 games. And its not that they can just shoot over him because they don't do that all that effectively.

I don't really understand my post either. Why you talking about Thomas anyway? He is pretty much out of our price-range no? My main issue with him is that he is more like a very tiny SG (though pretty good one at that).

Is it me or has this thread got just a tad quieter with the momentum shifting Miami's way?

Arison doesn't make much money if any from running the Heat. The money comes in terms of how the organization is valued and appreciates over time when they eventually look to ever sell. It's like that for most sports organizations. The owners income comes from the stuff that make them capable of buying the team, not from what "revenue" they make out of it.

@ByTimReynolds: Not sure how many more times this has to be said, but as has been the case throughout, Chris Bosh still wants to be with the Heat.

Houston! You have a problem.

Will you stop acting like Miller was this huge loss? Everyone here knows that Miller contributed almost nothing to this team because he was never healthy.

RexBoyWonder wrote:When free agency started, the number 12 came up when talking about possible free cap size. We might not have had that much, but I still believe that the big 3 taking a small discount is a real possibility, given everything we heard.

Salary cap = 63.5

Wade = 13
Bosh = 17
Lebron = 17
Haslem = 2 (strech contract to 3 years)
Cole = 2
Napier = 1
Full MLE cap hold - renounced
Mcbob = 5
Granger (bi-annual exception )
Cap holds = 2.5

total = 59.5

Free cap space = 4 Mil.

Could net us another decent player. If we move Cole or get Haslem to take the vet min, or big 3 take bigger discount, could go up to 6-7 Mil for another player.

The problem with this plan/idea is that we cant use cap space AND exceptions. Cant have both. We either operate with cap space on all deals (including McRoberts and Granger) or we operate as a team ABOVE the cap and use those exceptions. So if you are eluding to the Big 3 taking less and McBob and DG taking deals that start at those salaries but aren't techinically "exceptions" then yes it could work but that is the only way.

Question becomes, does Lebron Wade and Bosh take considerably less for McRoberts, Granger and a 4-6 million dollar player. As much as I would love to say yes, I think it is unlikely.

We need all three to take a little bit of a cut to get one more impactful free agent. That would seal the deal

790 Ticket making a good point. Kyrie's played 9 more games in past 3 years while being far younger than Wade. Also if Kyrie has such an issue playing with Waters, whats going to happen with Lebron ;/? Wade tailored his game to playing with Lebron, can Kyrie do the same?

Make sure you know all the details before constantly making such a statement.

I don't think there is any player that can make a impact for 6 million range. Ariza, Deng and Gasol want 10 mil or more. It will take 6 mil just to get Mr. Kardashian to consider. Emeka is injury prone but he wants 6 mil or more. Even that guy Marvin Williams Mr. College wants 6 mil. Jordan Hill wants 6 or more.

I think Birdman wants the 6 mil! There is not enough cap space unless James is willing to go less. Also if Arison is willing to take the luxury, they can add a Deng type guy.

There is no more cap space....

The idea is to operate as a team over the cap and then just use exceptions.

If you only add player through these exceptions..you can retain all of your own players and pay them more even.

So if we only add players through these exceptions...we can give the Big 3, Allen, Birdman, Haslem, Lewis, Chalmers slight raises.

So if lebron and Bosh leave what do you guys see Wade doing this free agency. Would you like for him to stay and suffer the last few years of his career or go to a team like the Lakers for another shot at the title.
