Noel as a stretch 4 would be such a waste. Don't think anyone is anticipating or hoping he becomes one. But he certainly can play the 4.

Yeah, I think the whole stretch 4 thing in the NBA is getting a little overblown. Sure, if you have a strong post presence with little outside game, like a Dwight or an Al Jefferson, a stretch 4 is great. But if you have a player as mobile as Noel, and a player like Embiid who has shown that he is skilled in the post, but can also step out and hit the mid-range jumper, I think there is the potential for them to co-exist very very well. Even without Noel having a "stretch 4" label, their skillsets are still complementary enough that they will be a destructive front court.

Seeing how Noel looked yesterday just reaffirmed my belief that Noel is a PF and that the 76ers were fortunate that the best player, Joel Embiid, fell to them.

As far as Noel while I was somewhat impressed on his offense. I doubt he will ever be an offensive force and I'm ok with that. He should make his mark on defense. When you think about 2 to 3 years down the road when the Sixers are a lot better Noel shouldn't even be a top 3 option on offense.

If everyone develops to how they project and play to their ceiling then the first option should be Embiid or the 2015 first round draft pick. After Embiid and the 2015 first rounder the 3rd option on offense should be either Saric or MCW. So that would make Noel the 5th option at best and that's a great thing especially if by 2017 he can at the least be close to hitting a consistent 16-18 footer like KG or Ibaka. We shouldn't need Noel to be an offensive force or a main option.

And Noel playing without Embiid this year should help his development because he should be the 2nd or 3rd option on offense so he will get more time to get his offense down.

If I am really being realistic in my hopes for Noel I would say that his upside is slightly higher than Joakim Noah only because he is a better athlete and has slightly more offensive skill which offsets Noah's better passing ability.

Noel projects as a hyper athletic, hyper competitive, dominant rim protector, who can step out and disrupt passing lanes and guard long 3's away from the basket.

On hustle and athleticism alone he should be able to average 12-15 points a game. If he can develop the 15 foot jumper though I think that he could average 15-18 points and more importantly open up things for other players. I get it that Joel is the only player that we have that has franchise potential, but I am convinced that they can play together and dominate together.

I just want to see his health returning this summer. We have the whole next season to watch the growth of his game.

Agree with all that's been said. If Noel's prime is a Noah type player, 13pts/11reb, that can really be a menace at the rim while also being able to shut down the stretch 4s of the league, I'll be super happy. Noah and Noel actually have pretty similar sizes so I'm not too worried about Noel looking like a stick out there. Noah is 6'11 as well and he only weighs 232 lbs.

Noel sitting today in summer league had me thinking.

Do you think the Sixers are gonna 'Rondo' Noel this season, or is this just a summer league thing? Meaning, do you think they will have some type of plan to rest him once every handful of games?

I hope not. Practically 2 years removed from an ACL, he should be full go. I get the tank and all, but they are plenty bad enough to get the best odds for the lottery.

Players are more susceptible to injury when they are tired. Players get tired in Back-to-back games. Why risk anything in a meaningless Summer League game?

I don't think you understood.

I'm talking about the regular season, not summer league. I don't care about resting him in summer league.

What I don't want is for him to be sat down random games as "precaution" during the regular season or not being able to play on back to backs.

I think it's cause he played big minutes yesterday (usually a guy in his first game back plays like 20 minutes or so) and he's playing both leagues so he can't play every game anyway.

If they think that's the way to go I've got no problem with it. Same deal with Embiid. Our franchise's future rests upon their health. No need to rush things when we're not winning this year anyway. Ease him into getting big minutes over a couple of seasons.

Agreed

However, I don't think that Noel will be getting scheduled rests during the season. They have taken a long time already and once they know that the knee isn't responding poorly to games then they should just let him go.

If he had no injury history at all he would probably be playing 35 plus minutes a game for us. Maybe they cap his minutes before that level though. He might not be able to play that many minutes this year just based on his foul rate alone.

Tank doesn't need Noel out of the lineup. Tank is strong.

Yea baby, Nerlens confident in his shot. Made 33/40 FT in practice.
Smiling, he says "I've exceeded what Coach has wanted out of me". Talking about Coach Brown who wanted Nerlens to reach 63%ft efficiency.

12.0 ppg

8.5 rebs

3.5 asts

2.5 blks

2.0 stls

He'll finish top 5 in the league in steals and blocks

The only thing I can see them doing is to limit his minutes on the 2nd of a back-to-back

he's at 223 now? so 20 lbs heavier than when we drafted him? 1 year = 20 lbs... not bad!

I'm not sure if there has been.... but I feel that strongly about Noel defensively. Dude's hands are extremely fast for a big and he get's his hands on everything.

He was 203lbs when drafted him? lol are you sure. I thought he was 215lbs area, but regardless, he has added muscle which is great!

Return to Philadelphia 76ers
