Corey's ballhandling is solid enough. It has never been a problem in any of our games. It's not like we're asking him to cross people over like Iverson.
Corey is a defensive minded PG who runs the offense well. That's his strong point. His biggest problem is his lack of 3 point shots, but he's solid from midrange and as a slasher.
In terms of how he fit into the team, his problem is that he's more of a playmaker than a scorer like Patty. And with our second unit, Manu plays that playmaker role. So now you're negating Corey's strengths and turns him simply into a shooter (which he doesn't do well) and a defense guy (where he's solid but far from being great).
I definitely wouldn't say motivation and discipline to be an issue though. And I don't think it's his game to just chuck like Patty. With us, he has never shown to be a "score first" type PG. On the other hand, from the first time Patty comes here mid season a few years ago, he was chucking like crazy. He averaged like 10 points in 16 minutes in his first half season with us. His scoring mentality fits better with Manu on that second unit.

If CJ is our backup in the playoffs, we're not going anywhere. As it stands, Mills will be ready come playoff time. To me, that's all that really matters right now. I'm sure for the 40-50 games that Patty misses, Joseph can step in and do an OK (but not spectacular) job.
If TP goes down, which he no doubt will at some point, then we're in big trouble. That means more minutes for Manu at the point, and more wear and tear (and therefore increased risk of breakdown).

Patty sometimes does a spectacular job and sometimes he dissapears. I have to see some more long term consistency.

I thought he did a great job last year, especially when TP went out. We didn't miss a beat with Patty playing more meaningful minutes, and it was a blessing in disguise because I think it was that extra responsibility that helped come playoff time. Patty played without fear in the Finals. Not many would have the stones to step up and hit those shots like he did.

I sorta agree with you. He tends to disappear at times on the offensive end but his defensive intensity is always there.
