Interesting analysis.

9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

It's not really super panic time really. Going in to the season, most fans were saying we'd be perfectly happy if we had meaningful games in September and a shot at the playoffs. Well, we're right there, 3 games out nearing the AS break.

It's definitely concerning though the way they've played over the last 5 weeks roughly. Is this the real Jays team that we saw last year (with a lot of injuries and other stuff but similar wins) or was May the team they can be consistently.

Based on overall history looks like May was a perfect storm of everything going right. And still we're right in the hunt for the division.

They have failed though early on in April to push the lead even higher when everyone was struggling and now we're struggling again and the other teams are slowly turning it around. TB looks like they could come on strong.

Jays need to stop this horrible stretch and do it ASAP but it's tough when BL and EE are both out and we have flaws in the way we're set up.

It seems like we've been mediocre to bad for 2 months of the season and super hot for only 1 month.

It's super panic time in that we had a nice division lead and squandered it really quickly, in classic Jays fashion. If we were just inching along bit by bit throughout the season and we got to where we are now, it wouldn't be so bad. It's more that we looked really good, and then choked it all away by not even playing mediocre ball, but rather subpar to awful ball.

IMO we had our chance and now we're done. *reverse jinx comment  *

There are still seven weeks of baseball to be played before we can say we played meaningful baseball in September. Hell, we may not even be playing meaningful baseball in August at this pace which would have been unthinkable a month ago.

The Jays are 9-20 since the win against the Cardinals to put them 14 games over .500. They could realistically lose their remaining games prior to the break (although I'm guessing they will fluke a win or two). It's pretty darn close to panic time, if it's not already, especially with Edwin and Lawrie out.

Everyone and their pet chimp thought this team was a lock as the cellar dweller of the AL east. Be thankful that they gave us one exciting month. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if they ended the season finishing 5th in the division. In fact, I'd be more surprised if they didn't.

This is a one dimensional team. Hope for average pitching, and swing for the fences. That's it. When they aren't hitting on those cylinders they're a pretty crappy team.

Bring back Goins and Diaz.
They scrubtacular play will re-inspire the team to play well again and not be a Goins.

There are still 71 games to go. So plenty of games to go and the East is pretty weak. However, i still feel sick to my stomach like other long suffering Jays fans with the way they have played last month. Let the season play out. After the year- if this team is not playing meaningful baseball games in September. It is time for another rebuild.

Trade Reyes, Dickey, Bautista and Beuhrle for some high ceiling prospects and everyday young players, clean house from AA to Gibbons. This team is spending 130 M dollars on payroll, which is around 60M more than Oakland and 30 M more than the Orioles. The way AA spent the money is highly questionable. I am just hoping that this team can play half decent until Lawrie, EE, and Morrow can come back healthy. Feel terrible for all the Jays fans that witnessed the collapse of 2009 and the last twenty one pathetic summers. I thought this year was going to be different :(

It seems like the team goes as Jose Reyes goes. . These last couple weeks he has been awful in the field and at the plate. When we had our run in may/June he was on base often and super aggressive when he got there. Added a whole new dynamic to the team.

I think the concern should be the overwhelmingly poor performances of late that has the team in this situation. This isn't a team who has played so-so baseball all year but rather a team that has been amongst the worst in baseball over the past month. If this trend continues, then we can potentially be 10 games under .500 by the end of August. There is reason for concern, serious concern IMO. Edwin and Lawrie on the shelf, offence unable to muster much of anything. Oh yes, it is definitely time to be a bit worried.

The Jays have scored less than 3 runs a game for the past month. The crazy part is they are still ranked 3rd in the AL for runs scored.

On the flip side, their pitching has been average to below average in the AL (ranking bottom 6 in most categories) all season. The team obviously relies on the long ball and when they aren't hitting, their pitching isn't going to carry them through poor stretches. That's going to lead to many hot and cold streaks during the year, but often many more cold streaks. The best teams in baseball are just more consistent and the Jays have never shown to be under this regime.

I'm just frustrated because we're not trying to add to our ball club and we're just kind of throwing in the towel. Management has to know where our weaknesses are and they're just being ignored quite frankly.

Best team in the last 10 years? Yup, just going to hope we can hold on for dear life during the ONE year the AL East is winnable. Yup, just going to stand pat here and hope J.A. Happ wins the Cy Young and Kawasaki wins the silver slugger.

Thanks for creating this venting thread! ARGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Now that I've got that out of the way, we're 3 games out, and only at the All-Star break. There is still a TON of baseball to be played, and we've seen the type of streak this team is capable of going on (in both directions)! Is the team on a positive trajectory right now, HELL NO, but that doesn't mean we can't turn it around. What I find (mildly) comforting, is the fact that our pitching has continued to be reliable, and it is our offense that has been the problem.

I think the All-Star game will do the Jays (and us fans) a lot of good. Lets wait another 30-35 games before passing judgement on this team. Time will tell what this squad is made of.

It was a nice run, and we made our way up the power rankings. Baseball into July, it's a nice thing. Maybe next year we can hope for an August run.

If we want to look at things optimistically, we have to consider the fact that the rest of the east is weak too. I can't see anyone running away with it. Baltimore's bullpen has been used as much as any in the majors and they're likely due for some fatigue down the stretch.
