The Summer League Thread
I believe our first is game is on July 11th and so far the only confirmed players we have are Kyle Anderson, Deshawn Thomas and Marcus Denmon.

Ejim's going to be playing for us in Vegas and Philly in Orlando so hopefully RC's gets him signed before Philly has a chance to steal him. Really really like this kid, he's perfect for us.
As for the other two both are hard working high energy guards that could turn into decent backups.

I am curious to see if the Spurs try to bring over some of their Euro players this year. Don't they usually give them a shot in summer league?

There we go. Our SL roster (from Paul Garcia)

Shaq on Duncan:SA won because of TD, a guy I could never break.I could talk trash to Ewing, get in D-Rob's face, get a rise out of Mourning, but when I went at Tim he’d look at me like he was bored and say:“Hey,Shaq, watch this shot right off the glass.”

Three SA players stashed in Europe will be playing
Marcus Denmon, Deshaun Thomas and Ryan Richards.
Have the feeling that Darius Morris will be one impressing the most. Hopefully Denmon, Thomas and Cotton have a nice SL.
Kind of lost my hopes for Ryan Richards. Amazing tools but ..

Strange no Bertans. His bro played for the Celtics summer league squad. Also strange to see Ayers, and to a lesser extent Daye.

Ayres is a massive surprise, Daye's a bit puzzling but i'm glad to see him there.
Really excited to see what Cotton, Ejim, Slomo and Green can do.

I can't wait to see Slomo and Cotton too. I wonder if Ayers is there to help see how these young players fit in the system. Maybe he plays the Splitter/Duncan center type position. Though I'm not an Ayers fan. The other possibility is maybe Ayers shows enough to trade him to free up a roster spot.

That makes sense, the only other reason I can think of is that he wants to learn the playbook better. He did struggle a lot in the first 20 or so games of the season.

Anderson....I'm actually going to watch you guys this year just because of him.

Cotton is the truth too! Either Ayers or Daye needs to go so we can keep Cotton. Ayers has been awful. Slomo is great but these games turn into hero ball and it takes him out of the game.

Re: The Summer League Thread
My top three players tonight:
1. Slomo- great pickup. His D was the worst part of his game and didn't look great.
2. Cotton- this dude can play, and is pretty tenacious on D. I don't if I expect him to go 5-6 every night but it looked like he could.
3. Thomas/Ejim- both had moments, but neither look like they should make the roster.

Re: The Summer League Thread
My thoughts
Kyle Anderson was the only guy on the floor that could actually run a team. He doesn't rush things, makes the right pass and created for the other guys a few times. He looked much better/more comfortable with the ball on his hands. He needs to improve playing off the ball and defensively but we kind of knew it. He had a very hard matchup guarding Nik though.
Cotton - Kid looks good creating his own shot. He is quick, he can shoot off screens, he can create off the dribble and shoot 3s. He doesn't look very comfortable running the team though. He is a SG in a PG body.
Denmon - He played good D, but offensively he looked terrible. Zero PG skills, he was ball-hogging and taking a lot of bad shots. I know that the DL is a showcase to make a NBA roster, but he didn't look like a Spurs material at all. I was very disappointed.
Ayres looked terrible per usual, even against D-Leaguers

Re: The Summer League Thread
Imo a guy with slow feet like Kyle needs to bulk up to be able to keep up with big forwards on defense, so he can stay on the floor.. I just think defensively he has a better chance against bigger players than playing against quicker guards / forwards.. then offensively he can just do his thing

Really really liking Cotton. His game off the dribble is far better than I thought it would be.

Totally agree. He was matched up a lot againts Stauskas and other smaller/quicker players and continually lost track of where his assignment is. He's 6'9'', slow, and projects to be a good rebounder. His future is definitely at PF. Defensively, he's definitely a PF.
