We could then stretch J-Rich and clear about 33 million off our books in one trade.
From the Sixers side they add two young players, possibly draft picks, the ownership only loses a little over 3 million out of pocket, and no long term salary is taken on outside of THJ.
That's a dream but Philly isn't exactly the garbage disposal of the Knicks.
About Lin, I think the Rockets have a pretty huge advantage. Lin counts for $8 million against the cap but he will be paid $15 million. Teams are supposed to meet a minimum payroll (not team salary). Basically the full $15 million of Lin's salary is on the payroll but it only counts for $8 million against the cap. The Sixers already have $31 million and if you add $15 mil then that's $46 mil and you're pretty close to the minimum salary floor. They'd just need to sign a free agent or make a minor trade .
I'm still sceptic Knicks can trade Amare. And if Phil can dump Amare and Bargnani for cap space then he's instantly GM of the year ! Pretty much impossible. Even if Philly has incentives to trade cap space for expiring contracts, they just can do it with every team in the league. Not just Knicks (Amare) and Rockets (Lin). Teams usually need to pay a premium for cap space and I don't think it has changed.
About the minimum team's payroll, the eventual shortfall is calculated at the end of the season so the Sixers have enough time to meet the floor....
