Why would there be an investigation ?

RTichard Jefferson opted out of his contract in 2010 and his option year was Worth $15 million ! And it was after the worst season of his career. There was no way he could recoup that money unless he had a pre-arranged deal with the Spurs. Before free agency, he explained he opted out because there was a looming lock-out and he hoped to secure a four year $40 million deal. People laughed at the time but guess what ? After the moratorium he signed a four-year deal Worth $39 million with the Spurs...and noone complained ! No investigation...It will be the same for Wade if it happens.

My gut feeling is that during the meeting from which Melo came away feeling 'aligned' with Phil's vision, Phil presented Melo with a plan to land a relatively major piece by making moves that shed Amare and/or Bargs. If this is true, it is possible that Melo verbally agreed to re-sign pending said moves, which would then explain these few days... Melo laying low until whatever deal with Philly/etc is complete.

That's very plausible. I just have such a hard time seeing Phil pull something so drastic and game-changing off so quickly. We'll see.

Nike doesn't care where LeBron lands as long as he wins.

Yep. The notion that Lebron should indulge marketing considerations when deciding which city to play in is simply ludicrous. The guy has one of the most recognizable names on the entire planet. He could play for the Hackensack Comets. Wouldn't change the fact that he's Lebron James and everyone else isn't.

Jeremy Lin would disagree :D

he might go to miami for that but to cleveland ? no. not a chance. as me and you agree, the rockets would be the best team he could go to and he won't even consider them.

I don't give a **** anymore, I just want Carl to be wrong.

me neither. I want to believe but I'm just far too cynical (and many would say, realistic). Honestly, I'd be thrilled with just getting Melo to resign.

Well are you asking me this question with or without the condition that I included in my statement?

I don't find it likely that the NBA would start an investigation sua esponte. However, if someone important enough made a public (or possibly even a private) fuss about it, I do not see how the NBA ignores a situation that (if true) is so clearly in violation of the letter and the spirit of the provision.

The reason why thing are moving so slow is because all these guys are butt buddies. They want to take the easy road and play each other instead of beating them. At the same time, they all want the max.
