how Haywood trade could play a BIG role in the future.

Dallas amnestied Haywood back in 2012 & Charlotte picked him up for 2m per year, meaning they only pay 2m of his original salary & Dallas pays the rest. Since he's traded, now that applies to us.

Haywood has 1 year left guaranteed on that contract, then he has a team option for 10.5m, which we can use in event that we need to take on a lot of salary in a trade. This is going to be useful as Kyrie's extension kicks in next year, TT will be a RFA, Waiters is going to be eligible for an extension, so cap space will be a thing of the past. Kevin Love will also need to be extended if your mind is going that way.

Interesting, didn't have any idea about that. It only matters if a certain somebody decides to return. Dammit, now you got me sucked in to the idea of a return. I have been resisting the thought, and this would be an interesting selling point for the Cavs, one I have not heard before.

Per realgm rules you can only post 3 paragraphs of an article and have to post a link with it. I edited out your post to remove the whole article. Feel free to edit it back in with only 3 paragraphs and the link though!

Yes, that Haywood contract is just one more bullet in the gun. Great tradeable piece.

yeah very creative & under the radar, most people still don't know of this trade, let alone what it means other than seeming like a way to acquire a 2nd rounder.

I'm still with you about the return not happening

Haywood can hopefully play a little anyways. Hopefully he's not useless if LeBron stays.

You know it's bad when half of his wikipedia page says Hornets & other half says Cavaliers, ha.

As usual, a great point.

I've brought this piece up a number of times in trade posts with several teams. They never seem to get the significance.
