(Disclaimer: presented in no particular order or with an overall strategy in mind, just a list of guys I like)
1. Jerryd Bayless- solid bench guard capable of scoring in double figures and a decent defender. Hometown guy, maybe comes cheap for the chance to play at home.
2. Kirk Hinrich- would be a solid veteran guard, a great fill in should any of our guards miss time due to injury. Decent 3pt shooter, doesn't turn the ball over, and is a solid defender.
3. Shawn Marion- not exactly what he once was, but would thrive in our system, is still a great defender and he would likely come cheap. He would also likely cement himself in the Suns record books becoming our all time leading rebounder and shot blocker.
4. Jordan Hill- tough rebounder, solid inside scorer. Would bring some of the down low banging this team needs.
5. Nick Young- dude just scores the rock. Similar to Gerad Green in a lot of ways in my opinion, would be really fun to watch in the Suns system.
7. Pau Gasol- For obvious reasons, great post passer, gives us a reliable inside scorer.
6. Al Farouq Aminu- still young at 23, very athletic, known for his perimeter D. Still has lots of room to grow and develop, strikes me as the type Hornacek could get a ton out of.
I think any one of those guys makes our roster better and none of them will tie up significant future cap with the exception of Gasol.
Jerrd Bayless is a 1yr vet min contract away from being out of the league. He doesnt play defense and is an undersized ballhog shooting guard with no court vision.
Nick Young is even more of a ballhog that craves the spotlight. He would be Shannon Brown 2.0 without the tolerable defense.
WTF has Aminu done but get deeper on worse benches??
Wow just wow. Really?
Bayless does lack court vision, but as a cheap scoring guard off the bench it's not like he's a high risk investment.
Nick Young is a MUCH better shooter and scorer than Shannon Brown. He's much more in the Gerald Green mold.
And Aminu averaged 7.2ppg and 6.2rpg last year, is a solid defender and is TWENTY THREE. Teach him a corner three and he's a younger, more athletic PJ Tucker. Sign me up for that.
MOST of us thought Gerald Green was garbage before he put on a Suns uniform. But after last season I have serious confidence in our coaching staff to take on some reclamation projects and get the most out of players other teams have cast off.
