During the 3 day waiting period it's either match or don't match and if the incumbent team matches that player can't be traded to the signing team for a year.

Thanks for the education.

After seeing what another SG was just offered I bet Lance will wait to see what happens here, I don't think any of those teams will offer him what we can other than maybe the Lakers and they don't make sense from a win now standpoint.

I hope the Jazz match.

Hayward is a good player but there is only a slight chance he lives up to that contract.

Way too much money for Hayward.

Treadmill move.

I expect the Jazz will match, after waiting 71.99 hours of course.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Hmmm.

1) I like Hayward.

2) Hayward is worth nowhere near the max. I think the original 12 mil per over 4 offer by the Jazz was more than fair. 16 mil is a massive overpay that could really bite us in the butt down the road.

2) Jazz will begrudgingly match.

3) Hornets save face by saying they went hard after a 'marquee' talent, and then focus on second tier guys.

4) Welcome to the Hornets Marvin Williams.

All part of Cho's master plan to get the Jazz to overspend on Hayward so they can't afford to re-sign our number one off-season target - the game-changing Marvin Williams.

As far as other big name options go, I really like Lance at 10 mil or so, but I just get the feeling that we have no interest. Apart from some loose, early offseason reports, I've seen nothing linking us to him in the last several weeks. Imagine the defensive pressure that could be applied with Kemba, Lance, MKG. Wow.

Jazz will match but we dun got Jordan'd. Again. FO looks like a bunch of doofuses for failing to sign him to something more team friendly last year.

G-Time's agent is a badass whoever he is. That contract is brutal.

Hope the Hornets have a great year regardless, Al is maybe the easiest guy in the league to root for. That dude is fantastic and deserves a winning team.

I guess we're not worried about losing out on other guys while we wait to see what Utah will do. They've been saying they'll match all year, so we'll see if they were telling the truth.

Edit: I Imagine they'll take all 3 days though, just to dick with us.

This is my thinking. Credit MJ and Cho for going all in and opening up the checkbook. Much rather pay big money than do a S&T where we give up assets also. And no one can say the Hornets and MJ did not go all out to improve the team in FA. Hoping Jazz just let him go, but it is 50/50 that they match.

Agree. In fact I hope the Jazz match in the first hour of signing, so we can get on with the real business of improving this team. That contract is absurd. I sincerely hope we played this in part to appease Big Al.

I want Lance, but am pessimistic that this leadership has the guts to take him on. If Clifford is wary I can understand that, but how the hell can you know if you don't meet with the man?? Why not have Lance in for the full tour and discussion? If red flags wave just don't make the offer. I know Hayward is probably a great guy, but he is NOT anywhere close to this value.

I read about those we are interested in, such as Marvin Williams, and get sick to my stomach. Just when I thought we had some great drafting luck with Noah, we start crapping the bed by picking PJ, and now these moves so far in free agency. :banghead:
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

but Hayward averages over 16ppg 5rpg 5apg 1.4spg.
what would you say about his value if he averaged 20ppg 5rpg 5apg?
that's MVP numbers.

can Hayward ask the Jazz not to match?

Of course, but they don't have to listen. Similar situation with Eric Gordon a few years ago
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

we would have to agree with Utah on a sign/trade today and we haven't even talked to them about one, i really doubt we can agree on one today

They must feel really dumb about now. Should have signed him earlier in the season.
