I'm not concerned with Salary, this is frickin MLB...I evaluate the players.

Whatever they are worth is not my concern, we should spend with all the big boys, our owners have the god damned money.

This. There is no reason for Toronto to be sellers and start a rebuild. We are 2.5 games back just before the All Star game and striking distance of 1st in our division.

Look at the Yankees. When was the last time they sold their star players for prospects and started a rebuild? Boston the same. We should be spending. The owners of this team have the money. This is not Tampa, or Oakland.

They are still 3 games or so out of first in their division and getting no offense with Lawrie, Lind and EE out.

If you were asked before the season if you'd be happy with that position at the AS break most around here would say yes.

The difference is people got their hopes so high after that May stretch and how bad the AL East is overall.

That's not an excuse for the way they are playing, I can forgive the injuries and losses as a result, but they are somewhat back to making stupid baseball decisions defensively and offensively again and that's a big flag.

Going 11-23 in a 34 game stretch is not a slump. That's 21% of the season where they are playing .324 ball. Unless they plan on going on a Rays type of 2nd half tear, that's a tough hole to climb out of, especially with their injuries.

I don't expect the Jays to do anything at the deadline, but if they had an ownership group that cared about winning and a front office that did not value fan perception, then they would be smart to try a Red Sox 2012 salary dump. Reyes, Buehrle, and Dickey are prime candidates to move. Or they can hold on to Dickey (since he's not too expensive for what he is) and trade the other two. The goal should be to save money and add younger/cheaper pieces that fill other holes. Easier said than done, but it's better than the alternatives (which are doing nothing, gutting the farm, or a complete firesale).

I think trading Reyes has to be priority #1, regardless of which direction they choose. We don't want that contract hanging over our heads for the next three years. I'd also be looking to deal Happ (no chance) and Buerhle (now may be our best opportunity to move him without also having to send along cash).
