Sorry if this is a ridiculous ballboy question but I seem to be able to post in every board here sans the General Board. Is there some sort of restriction on that, like minimum post-count or join date? I checked the FAQ and didn't find anything related to this, and I obviously can't post it on the General Board rules thread so I figured I'd ask the folks on my home team's board. Why is there a 100 day Waiting Period to post on The General NBA Discussion Forum?

In the summer of 2012, we decided to make some reforms to our General NBA Forum to improve the discussion on the forum.

Unlike some of our other large forums, The General NBA Discussion Forum has posters that are fans of all 30 NBA Teams, as well as many individual players. There is far more debate and a lot of violations are committed because of that debate amongst fan bases and a lot of users who simply want to stir up trouble.

In addition, many users were getting a ton of violations for our General NBA Discussion Forum while receiving none in any other forum and ones who were banned were coming back with new accounts picking right up where they left off.

We decided that a 100-day waiting period would help new users adjust to the forum and dramatically cut back on recently-banned users coming back and derailing user discussion.

While inconvient to some, this policy has helped us dramatically improve discussion on our General NBA Forum and led to less users being banned simply for offenses committed on the General NBA Discussion Forum.

Could you make an exception and let a new user post before the 100 day waiting period?

We prefer that all new users adjust to our forums before posting on our General NBA Forum.

trust me, the general board is a much better place since they put the 100 day rule in place. in previous years the board was virtually ruined each summer with loads of teenage ball boys with nothing to do for the summer but act like morons on that board. it also cuts way down on spammers.

i didn't realize that reason (new posters making problems with their teenage spam problems) until you just said it.
i see why the 100 day delay is a good idea now, i'd do the same rule if i was a moderator (which i might be one day)

I'm sure this has been suggested about 50 times but the nba should institute something like a cup competition in soccer. Maybe shorten the season and do a single elimination tournament running concurrent with the season. Call it the NBA Cup or something dumb like that. It would give fans of small market teams some hope that they could win something every season. It wouldn't be a logistical headache and if it was a one-off thing than almost any team could win it.
