Probably partly in the hopes of adding FA additions/retaining Lebron, and partly because he got a wink-wink from Riley that he'll make significantly more than 40mil over the course of a 4-year contract or so.

If Riley knows Bosh is looking to bolt right when Lebron leaves, then you go give Melo a max deal and see if him and Lebron want to team up in Miami. Wade would take a pay cut for that. Cant be loyal to Bosh when hes looking to leave as well too.
