Trading Smith/Jennings = addition by subtraction. The longer they stay...the more they disrupt our chemistry.

As much as i would love to dump smith, he could fetch a decent return if we wait. Free agents can only officially sign tomorrow, so let's see where the chips fall and which teams are left with nothing, then we'll have a better idea of the market for Smith.

Yeah good luck with that.

He keeps being played at SF and being allowed to jack threes as if he could shoot hem and the "low ball offers" you are getting this offseason will look like a f*****g gold mine.

Uhhhh ok, but he won't be played at SF and he won't be allowed to continue to jack 3's all day. But cool story though.

You should know better then that. We have SVG as our coach now and he's also the president. He's not going to allow Smith too make him look like he's doing a terrible job here. He's already stated the 3 bigs should not be starting together and they need shooters around them so they have room to operate.

Oh, a much better situation then. A pissed off and crazy Josh Smith not getting the "props" he feels he deserves as a starter.

Maybe he's playing SF and shooting 3's at home during the off season, but since the season ended we've had a small change up with our front office and coaching.

You can keep Landry, Thompson and Terry.

Yes because I think that it's about fit and making sure that guys are in the same page on a team and are working together instead of independently.

The fit works both ways. Jason is actually very effective as a third big at both spots. He needs a change of scenery. I am likely also one of the few Kings fans who is not trying to get rid of Carl. I thnk that he "fits" as our third big very well as we seriously lacked offense in the post off the benh last year. As well I would be in favor of shipping you DWill in this as it was originally broken because I think you get more from the deal that way with a last shot flyer on him as well as nearly half of Smith's contract expiring after this season and Jason only costing 3 million the year after if you want the space instead.

Ok so if Smith would work well for your team and he's a piece your team would want, why should SVG give that up for what he deems as less than equal value?

Because the option - if you resign Monroe - is more of what you had last year and potentially worse.

And, as I said above, a worsened trade value next year.

Good thing we have the same coach as last year

You're making assumptions. Van Gundy isn't going to trot out the same line-up as last year. Somebody of that "big 3" is coming off the bench if all three are retained.

Someone's a little too concerned about the well being of another team. A lot of people on this forum want Isaiah Thomas. If we ended up getting him would you be concerned about how Jennings will feel and act too? If Sacramento ends up resigning Thomas, do you think one Piston fan will give two shts about how that'll work out with him and Collison?

Just say, "I want Smith for our spare parts regardless of value".

Usually not a good strategy to publicly say "This guy is a terrible fit, his contract sucks, please take him." So yeah, we are definitely posturing. I wouldn't expect us to say anything to the contrary until we can find someone to unload him on

Gundy has been an NBA head coach for 8 years (6 full and 2 partial seasons). He has a winning record in every year. Yes, every year. He took a team to the Finals. He has earned a little bit of respect and should be given a little bit of time to mold these guys into a team. No need to panic and trade Smith in a poor deal.

There is every reason to believe that he can get more out of this team than what they have delivered in the past. Smith has some definite strengths and skills. He has to be used correctly. Gundy will change the rotations and instill more discipline on this group (well, I sure hope so).

Having said all of that, if a good trade came along, I would definitely consider getting rid of Smith. But you can't continue to make bad trade after bad trade like the previous management/coaching staff did. They have to maintain a disciplined, long term outlook and start making positive trades every time. They just can't afford to dump someone just because thing didn't work out all peachy in the first year.
