I've always thought LBJ might be egotistical enough to make a move like this (sign with Raptors so that HE can bring a championship to the Country of Canada). Hell, Lieweke might even be able to convince him. Tim has as big an ego as LBJ.

There is just no way it could happen right now.

I don't believe this but when Miami came up it was a shock to the world and was in the conversation in the 11th hour.

Yes, Miami does have leverage: they could simply say "no, if you want to go play for Toronto, go sign for the $10 million that they have available". That would mean that Bron would be out about 10.5 million bucks in salary. So they do have leverage.

And then Riley can face the wrath of the players and watch nobody of note sign for him again...

Have you honestly heard of an exec not willing to do a S&T? I haven't heard of one guy say no yet. They will ruin their rep if they do, that's why they go along.

Butch gave the following reasons back in January as to why this may just happen this summer.

1. Miami can't resign the Big 3 because it simply can't afford to.
2. Lebron has hinted that he wants to stay in the East to be closer to his nice new big home in Cleveland (but its unlikely he would resign with Cleveland) and Toronto is a 35 min plane ride away.
3. New York, the logical choice many would say, is a complete mess, and Carmello has already publicly stated that he is opting out of his contract at the end of the year.
4. Lebron loves the city of Toronto, and has hosted private parties here over the last 2 summers.
5. The Raptors have risen up to a mid-level team, and with James would truly be one of the top teams in the East.
6. Tim Loewicke has the reputation as a guy who can get the big names others thought were impossible.
7. Drake and Lebron are friends.

Nope if there was a S&T it would likely be DD and Amir going the other way, add Hayes as well makes up about 21.5 million....

PG: Lowry
SG: Ross
SF: LBJ
PF: PP
C: Jonas

Honestly since you want to surround Lebron with shooters that will capitalize on his pulling double teams, so that Ross and PatPat are better options for him to play with than DD and Amir anyway.

Doesn't matter really since it's not real anyway. I did this just as a what if.

Meh, I don't think Riley needs to worry about his reputation, he's a God among men in NBA front-office circles. At the end of the day, he only needs to defend himself by saying that he's not obligated to take back crappy contracts to placate LeBron on his way out the door.

Plus, if LeBron leaves, Miami knows that they will be crappy for a few years (barring them signing Melo/Bosh/Wade). By the time they are ready to compete again, Riley would be retired.

I am sure it would have leaked a long time ago by an actual basketball source (Woj) if Toronto was actually a possibility.

You could trade guys like Fields & Hayes (who expire next year) with multiple draft picks and or young players for cap space. You have the ability to sign a guy like LBJ, then you trade whatever you have to get him.

I'm not even a LBJ fan, but I would do it.

You guys can't really believe this bull, right? I mean, it would be incredible to have Lebron, but it's probably as likely as ... well, Brazil getting killed 7-1 on their home field in the World Cup semi-Final.

It would be hilarious if instead of Lowry going to Miami to join LBJ, LBJ comes to Toronto to join Lowry. From a strictly player personnel perspective LBJ to Toronto makes a lot of sense. It's a young promising team whose biggest weakness - SF - would be filled by arguably the best SF in the league. It's an instant favourite for the East, and a challenger for the Championship. It's close to his home town where he's made his family home and he likes Toronto. It's not as far-fetched as it would first appear.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

I don't think the Raps would have much trouble dumping expirings like Fields, Hayes if they attach quality assets like Ross, Knicks Pick, their own picks with them, if they really needed to.

The bigger issue is convincing Lebron Toronto is the best place for him.
