First let me say, "I like Gordon Hayward...

But there is no way in hell he's worth $15-16 million a year." The Hornets must be insane. He got 15pts 5rebs and 5 asts on a terrible team. Will he make the Hornets that much better? Or will Utah match it?

I'm assuming this will be some kind of sign and trade deal Utah gets Gary Neal and Gerald Henderson.

http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/23 ... th-Hornets

What does this say about Lance who put up 13.8pts, 7.2rebs, and 4.6 asts? Is some crazy team gonna offer him that kinda money? If so I say a good bye to Lance and good for him and Gordon.

Hayward, but yes, its a ridiculous offer.

Thing is, to get a RFA from another team, you HAVE to overpay. Utah has said they will match ANYTHING, even a max. They can't afford to lose another asset after their poor decision to let Millsap and Jefferson walk for nothing a year ago.

This IS the same team that gave Eric Gordon a max deal...
Maybe they have a thing for Indiana kids. Didn't Hayward grow up in state as well?

he's from Brownburg and played for Butler. Brownsburg is a short drive west of the Colts Complex out 56th Street.

Actually it was the then New Orleans Hornets who gave that huge deal to EG. This is the Charlotte Hornets formerly the Bobcats, Charlotte is now the Hornets and NO are Pelicans. 8-)

EG was the center piece in the Chis Paul trade from NO to LA Clips.

I agree that Hayward is not worth a max deal but role players all over the league are being overpaid so it makes it hard to say he shouldnt be paid more than a lot of these guys. Utah was very bad last season and Hayward did very little to change that. In my opinion they're is only a few guys (team carriers) around the league that should be getting max dollars. And those are the guys that can make a team competitive all by themselves. These guys also cause sell-outs in tickets whenever they are coming to an arena. The Spurs have Duncan only making 10 per. And Parker only making 12.5. Lots of guys are not better or not more valuable to a team than them and shouldnt be paid more.

I'd think Hayward is clearly much more than a role player. He's pretty much a Scottie Pippen kind of guy. Sneaky good defender, GREAT facilitator, good shooter (when he's not forced to be the 1st and only option). Long, athletic, plays multiple positions, etc.

Obviously, I wouldn't pay him max money, but probably close. In fact, statistically, he's only a shade below where Paul George was coming into this season. 15/5/5 guys are pretty rare, too. I think only Lebron and KD did it, other than Gordon, this last year.

I'm not begrudging Hayward the massive financial windfall that has come his way. I think it's great for him. Even if he flops he's got that money coming in. But I can see him making $8-10 million but $16 million is crazy. Whether it's Utah matching it or Char paying him that's a contract that will come back to haunt them. I think he's topped out, the Hornets have MKG at SF already so he's gonna be playing SG mostly unless they decide to move MKG who has been a bit disappointing. In a few years they are gonna have to start signing Kemba Walker, Cody, Biyombo and MkG and their 2014 draft picks. They're gonna be in cap hell and no where near the NBA finals.

Eh, in 4 years, they'll know better whether Walker, Cody, Biyombo, and MKG are worth keeping. It's an overpay, yes, but I'd argue only $3m~ish or so. However, that's his going rate.

I think it's pretty telling that Hayward and Parsons got offers and Lance hasn't so far. Any team knows it just goes to 10 mil a year or so (about 5 mil less than those guys) and Lance is theirs as we simply can't match. But both Hayward/Parsons can be matched. I'm sure Lance and his agent are hoping once guys start signing a big offer rolls in, but it's not looking good for them right now.

Edit: if the Hornets and Mavs get those guys then it knocks out two of the biggest threats to sign Lance.

From what I can see you're looking at the Hawks, Lakers, Bucks, Cavs, Sixers, Suns, and Jazz as the team's left who could offer more than we can. Cavs will likely get Lebron or Ariza, Bucks won't make an offer, Sixers likely won't either. I'd be shocked if the Jazz made an offer even if they lost Hayward. Suns could but they're guard heavy and need to replace Frye. Hawks seem to be shooting for Deng or Ariza.

Honestly the Lakers are the only real threat out there if they lose out on big name guys, but I think they'll go for vets (reports have them looking at guys like Deng/Ariza) and probably don't want to tie up more than half their space with two shooting guards with question marks.

It wouldn't surprise me that the rockets don't match that ridiculous offer because they wanna have cap space for next summer even if they miss out on this summer. Love will be a free agent next summer an I'm sure the rockets would love to have him. So it wouldn't surprise me that they won't match that offer

I'm in shock that people want to throw $9m plus at Trevor Ariza like it's nothing. And that the price on Mike Miller is $5m+. Really? I'd rather pay Gordon Hayward or Chandler Parsons $15m than Trevor Ariza $10m.

It's desperation if you ask me. They have to be seen as doing something so the make these idiotic offers. Ariza should get $4 million or so like CJ Miles. Mike Miller I wouldn't give more than $2.5 million.

Dear gracious! I keep forgetting!
I must be getting really old. Is Larry Johnson still a Hornet?
