Now possibly a sign and trade of Gasol for Boozer. I'd have to assume that Gasol would play PF since the Bulls already have Noah. Any takers on a sign and trade of Ariza for Gibson+Dunleavy? Upgrades our PF spot while maintaining outside shooting and depth while Webster is out.

Gortat/Nene
Gibson/Nene/Gooden
Dunleavy/Porter
Beal/GRJ (until Webster is healthy)
Wall/Miller

I don't see anything new here.

Sign him to a deal that works for the team.
Sign him to more then we want and try a sign and trade.
Sign him to more then we want, play him a year and trade him.

Let him walk and bring in any number of players that have been suggested on short deals that can fill in ahead of Otto for a year while we evaluate him and he ramps up and Webster gets healthy.

There are plenty of options and with out seeing it play out, there is nothing to worry about.

Even if it ends up they take a small step back this year, that's fine. But I don't concede that yet.

I am not sure the Bulls would deal Gibson. I probably would do the deal for Dunleavy + incentive. Sending out Boozer in a S&T means the Bulls can take back at least $20 million. Add Dunleavy and it is nearly $25 million. I think they can fit Gasol and Ariza in that number.

I agree that if there's "a small step back this year," no big deal. But, what if it were a bigger step back than that?

Lets say we had to rely on Porter for starter minutes at the 3, a guy who basically still has to learn the NBA game and remake himself to flourish (which I have some confidence he can do, btw). And we wound up w/ mid-30s in wins and either missed the playoffs or got tossed aside easily in R1? But... we were able to increase our future upside in the process (...a couple of younger players and/or picks).

Would you be ok with that? I would be.

I'm not suggesting it has to happen. But, I don't see anyone but P.J. Tucker who could "fill in" most of Ariza's productivity at low cost, and why would he be available in a trade?

I don't see anything new here - no need to panic - we will have a good draft pick next year.

Gibson is no bargain at his salary. But Dunleavy is a great idea -- good thinking! He's not as productive as Ariza, but he's still pretty good and he'd just be a transitional player for us. Give us a year at his quite low salary, and either come back on another low-cost deal or move on (retire?).

The problem is that I don't see Chicago trading him: who's going to play the 3? Their only wings are Butler, Snell, and Dunleavy. Butler plays the 2, and Snell is very raw (potential bust).

They traded #16 and #19 to get #11 McDermott -- arguably a high price in such a deep draft. He's their future at the 3. In the meantime, I think they must feel they need Dunleavy, no?

I assumed that Chicago would be getting Ariza. I don't think that the Lakers have the cap space for both Boozer and Ariza. If LA wants Ariza, maybe they take on Boozer and then give the Wizards some of the incentive they get plus Nash. It doesn't immediately help with the SF position but if Nash is paid by insurance and the Wizards throw in cash, they can probably get an overpaid wing in a straight up deal.

Found this little tidbit from Larry Coon:

Larry Coon: To keep Parsons' rights & still sign Bosh to max, they have to dump another $3,732,744 in guaranteed salary. That's Jones AND Motiejunas. Twitter @LarryCoon

Larry Coon: So to get Bosh at max AND keep Parsons, Daryl Morey just needs to dump Asik, Lin, Jones AND Motiejunas with no salary coming he other way, Twitter @LarryCoon

Either Jones or Donatas would fit under our TPE. I'd love to pickup Terrance Jones for a couple future seconds.

Man it would be a steal to get Jones, he'd be great with Wall & Beal.

Now this where I have to reflexively bash EG :D EG has never shown that he is the kind of GM to have the imagination to try these kind of moves to get a Terrance Jones. EG looks around at the Maynor's, the Josh Howards etc. for "Steals" This is what he has consistently done as GM sadly :(

I think interest in Ariza, and the Wizards not wanting to match his asking price, represents a sign and trade opportunity. Houston is probably the most simple with Lin plus asset allowing them to sign Ariza to any reasonable salary.

If the Lakers take on Boozer from the Bulls, Nash plus incentive could also work.

The Cavs probably wouldn't have much incentive to go the S&T route, since they have a lot of cap space to work with now.

Do you mean a S&T with the Wiz for Ariza? I wouldn't have much interest in Lin, but Jones might be a possibility if they have some space, but not enough for Ariza's asking price. And if they were getting Ariza, they might be more willing to part with Jones.

That could be our best case scenario if we are going to lose Ariza anyway.

Taking Lin is what makes the Rockets interested in doing a S&T, otherwise they dump Lin in an alternate deal and use cap space. For the same deal(to Wizards vs. dumping Lin), they can probably stay above the cap(retaining the full MLE) and keep a TPE from the Asik deal.

Haha, noted.

Actually, if somebody else is able to get Terrence Jones for a 2nd, and then Ernie turns around and signs a guy like Humphries for the full MLE - I'll reflexively bash him myself! LOL
