What happens with James Johnson now?

By my calculations, with 120% for BeBe and Caboclo, and a guaranteed Buyckes:

We are $4.2 under tax.

Now this assumes all deals spread evenly. So either JJ is getting the full LLE, or a portion of the MLE. By the end of this, we should be about $2 million under tax, which will allow us wiggle room for in season trades if we are taking back more salary than we send out.

It seems that our roster is set.

We've been assuming, on the basis of no evidence in particular, that every deal we've announced is flatlined. That may not be the case. We have to wait on Mark Deeks to get us the numbers.

Any chance the deals might be front loaded instead of back? ie Lowry and Patterson starting at 14 and 7 mill respectively?

I know it takes away any chance of using the MLE but sets us up very very nicely for 2016.

We can still get some space if we trade Fields and Hayes for shorter expiring contracts.

Mark Deeks reported that Lowry's contract is flat each year (and I assume PP's will be as well). Plus, if the contracts of both Lowry and PP were front loaded, the Raptors would be a hair over the tax.

I hope we could extend Amir this offseason at a discount at the expense of him taking some time off for surgery so he can get some security. Something like a 4 year 25 mill year extension would ensure this would not be his contract year and could get his ankles fixed up for good. We have some depth and we could start his contract at 4 mill in 2016 with a backloaded contract to give us max space for 2016.

Same with Derozan. Hope he negotiates a long term max contracts starting 2017 and just picks up his option for 2016. this would give the maximum space we need to resign Durant in 2016.

The rules regarding extensions are a bit wonky. I believe an extension can be more than 4 years (including the current year, so a de facto 3 years) and the maximum raise is 7.5%. It's still possible with Amir, but will have to fit within certain parameters and he could be leaving money on the table.

I can see why it touched a nerve, OP is dedicating time to some quality information and then hes annoyed by nitpickers. He explained earlier to another poster why he didn't list buycks and then he has to explain it all over again because you didn't bother to read. The rooks may get 120% but until the deals are official he may as well stay on the safe side

All rookies get 120%. I remember Avery Bradley (?) being denied 120% and it was a huge mess with big articles.

To be on the safe side, you over-estimate. But yes, I can definitely see where the frustration would come from.

Masai will probably want to leave a little bit of wiggle room in case a trade opportunity arises or they need to sign someone mid year (e.g., injury replacement, buy-out casualty for playoff run etc.).

AFAIK, Raptors could be over the tax at the start of the season, as long as they are under at the end. Hayes and/or Fields at the trade deadline for a pick is very doable.

They can still stretch out Fields for more cap space for a big but I'm thinking that they'd rather have the entire contract expire at the end of the year.

Buycks must play well in summer league or else he's done. I wouldn't mind keeping him around at his salary though. A guy who understands the system to hold the "clipboard", so to speak, is better than bringing in a young guy with potential but needs seasoning. The Raps already have two of those on this roster.

As for another big, I'm not sure if the Raps will sign one until they figure out if Nogeira can play some minutes in this league next season.
