Thomas is a 6th man. Even Sac came out and said he is not starter material, but is an elite 6th man. If we plan on "contending", then this is a good move, as Ennis is going to take time (years) to develop. Rookies usually dont get many minutes on a contending team.

They probably decided Bledsoe is not worth the max even though they have all the cap in the world.

Yeah, I brought this up a few days ago because it was rumored we had visited with Thomas. I said maybe a S&T Bledsoe (to play with his buddy Cousins) and we get Thomas, Stauskas, Derrick Williams (to help match salaries), and a pick.

Derrick Williams only has a year left so if he doesn't work out, no big deal, and Stauskas, a pick and Thomas isn't terrible for future.

Of course I say this with the caveat of it being done ONLY because McD didn't want to pay Bledsoe that much (for whatever reason) and wanted to keep Dragic and not pay both. Otherwise I'd prefer to keep both no matter the cost.

BUT, I think Thomas would actually be a good sparkplug 6th man type off the bench. If he was our free agent signing to just come off the bench, that's a DAMN good pg to come off the bench. It doesn't make Ennis expendable necessarily because he's a rookie. But just signing him gives us more trade options later...whether it be trading Thomas, Bledsoe, Dragic, Ennis.

Thomas depends on other things in the works. The third guard thing? LOL.

Key free agents are not interested in the Suns. No Gasol. No Deng. I'm telling you -- players /hate/ Sarver. He made such an ass of himself during the lockout with his anti-player agenda we will have a hard time getting FA's to sign that are big names because of it.

I was just kind of envisioning the same when I was typing my last response. I think if HE is one of our main free agent signings to be a 6th man spark plug, that's a good use of money as long as we can still adequately replace what Frye did (whether that be with a Morris or signing Anderson or getting Ilyasova). That makes our bench quite a bit better.

Plus it opens up future trade options as well.

I do not understand this at all. Isaiah Thomas is 5'9". When has a team ever won the championship with such a small guard. There is no way the Suns will have Thomas and Eric Bledsoe on the team. That would not make sense. You cannot start them together because it would be the smallest backcourt of all time. Does Thomas want to be a backup? I doubt it. The Suns are so loaded at guard with Dragic, Green, Goodwin, Ennis, and most likely a re-signed Bledsoe. They should be looking to upgrade the small forward and power forward spots. That is where the team is lacking. Why are they looking at Thomas?

Yes, that would be a great move, at the very least for the fact that Ish Smith won't have to play for us anymore.
