Re: CZ Top: The Cody Zeller Thread - Pt 2
When asked if Cody would be able to start, Clifford cited an eye-popper of a stat. In Cody's last 27 games of his rookie season, he shot 52%. Clifford added that Cody played defense well, rebounded well and the team played well while he was in there. Clifford also mentioned that he planned on giving Cody more minutes even if Josh McRoberts came back.

Cody is going to be an excellent pro imo.
I'm not worried if he ends up starting.

I am terrified if he ends up starting. He played no where near even a mediocre starting level last season. He is a terrible fit next to Al unless he has learned to shoot this offseason. He was fine in short burst as a hustle big but as a starter if he plays like he did even at his best point last year we have taken a HUGE step backwards from where we were last season.

As of now I got Cody as the starter until I see what Vonleh has. I got a feeling that Vonleh might not be as raw as he looked in Indiana against zone and trap defenses but we shall see. Crean didn't give Vonleh heavy minutes, maybe to drive down his stock in hopes that he return for his sophomore year, but his per 40 numbers against other top prospects per 40 numbers were impressive, so we might have the ultimate gem of the draft in the rough.

We probably don't make the playoffs if Zeller starts.

I understand that point of view as well!
I actually think Zeller is a good foil for Jefferson and will prove it this season.
His jumper has to improve most definitely, but it's not a broken shot, it should improve in time.

A lot of magic and rabbits outta the hat would be needed. I just hope he doesn't get injured hitting the ground so much. That's my biggest concern for Mr. Nice Guy With The Corny Jokes.

If he is our starting 4 I would put our chances of the playoffs at half what they would have been if we had McRoberts. He can't defend well and doesn't stretch the floor. He is no help with ball movement either. Unless he magically learns to hit threes he provides nothing that helps Al's game like McRoberts did and he can't help protect the rim either.
We either need a shooting 4 or a rim protecting 4 and Cody hasn't shown the ability to either of those things is a game yet. If we go into the season with him I will hope he learns how because otherwise he is just a space killing hustle guy.

The last 27 games he shot 52% from the field and played pretty well.
Clifford is extremely high on him. You underrate him severely in my opinion. I think hes going to have a very solid season, but we will see.

His shot selection moved inside where Al is supposed to be. He is nothing if not underwhelming. He is a mediocre hustle big who spends as much time on his back as his feet. He did all that work against backups and still shot below average at the rim compared to the league.
I am not underrating him unless he has completely retooled his game. I am just looking at the numbers in context.

I think the coaching staff is very high on him. Only time will tell. I don't think they have half that confidence in Bismack.

Literally seems like Biyombo has been in Africa doing camps for weeks now. He really needs to be here at the gym every day like MKG and Zeller are.

He's 7 feet tall and athletic. He should be able to roll out of his Ikea bed in the morning and average that.

You say that now but Biyombo has actually been over there imbibing a magical catching potion from the Mbuti Pygmies.

Out of all players who scored 15+ ppg at Vegas SL, Cody has 3rd best fg% at .632, trailing Justin Hamilton and Dequan Jones.
His FT% is concerning, though. Only .538 is anything but promissing, especially if we expect him to become a reliable jumpshooter. But it's only two games, so, looking forward to see him tonight.

I'm 21 years old in Vegas with no plans for the night! Sounds like a perfect opportunity to see a new animated movie!
