Yup, I am actually hoping Lebron won't make a decision until July 13.

:D :D Utah made an interesting trade yesterday with Toronto. They traded Garrett a 6'4" shooting guard for Novak a 6'10" F.....This move could be nothing...on the other hand both players play about 13-16 mpg and shoot good 3 pt%...just maybe this move was to acquire a backup 3 for a starting Rodney Hood..If so they may not be matching Hayward's contract?

Steve Novak is not going to prevent the Jazz from resigning Hayward.

I could be mistaken but didn't this trade happen before we offered Hayward's contract? But you could still be right, Utah could have anticipated a huge offer for Hayward and this was their back up plan

This is to enhance the debate about Hayward's preferred position. All stats found at 82games. Stats show Hayward has split time between SG and SF nearly equally over his career. Stats per 48.

Gordon Hayward at Shooting Guard

22 pts., 7.2 assists, 6.5 rebounds, 46%eFG, 18 PER (opponent PER 14.6)

Gordon Hayward at Small Forward

20.5 pts., 6.5 assists, 7.0 rebounds, 44%eFG, 15 PER (opponent PER 14.3)

I find the net production by position stat interesting because it shows +/- versus opponents with all stat categories weighed in. Gordon was +3.4 at SG and +.7 at SF last season.

The 2012-2013 season was much more pronounced in terms of Hayward being a shooting guard. He dominated the position. Last season Hayward's stats were borderline All-Star at SG and just above average at SF. My conclusion is that Gordon Hayward is a better shooting guard than he is a small forward, but he is versatile enough to be a plus at both positions.

All that said, looks like the Jazz intend to match, so it might all be a moot point for you guys. Best of luck to you!

Silver Lining on Hayward Overpay: losing McRoberts to MIA took 5 assists per game out of our starting lineup and I'm dubious Zeller can help on that front (1 apg & did you see some of his passes last year????) but Hayward averaged 5.2 apg. That puts him right at the top 25 players in the league, mostly alongside PGs (Noah and Batum are other exceptions).

Sounds like UTA planning to match anyway.

Like this potential signing, kinda Al Jefferson-esque move. Yes, overpaid, but Charlotte really not in position to do much better than this, considering all circumstances. Hayward a smart player who can both score and pass, and a great character, reliable person. His numbers maybe tell he's overpaid, but just take McRoberts example - twice worse numbers, yet he had become very important player in Bobcats system and ended up in Miami on an excellent contract. Gordon might prove to be even better fit than McBob.

As a collective fan base are we hoping for Hayward or are we hoping Utah matches?

I want him here. Most seem to favor it the other way.

Considering that the East just got tougher with Lebron going to Cleveland I want either Hayward or Stephenson on this team. I don't care if either get the max.

Agree. I would also love it if we can get a player that had similar passing skills like McRoberts and Diaw.

I like the Kid but i don't like the contract. But with that said I didn't like the AL Jefferson signing either so what do i know. But i thik i can ignore the horrendous contract if he would end up improving us, or his own game

I thought Hayward was the best free agent fit for this team, so I hope we get him. We overspent, but we had to.

saying that, I think Jazz match

Yep. We don't even have a choice at this point.
